Moakley is a deritative of moclair from France. The surname means bad account. My understanding is the Moakleys were french Protestants that immigrated to Ireland and many generations later to the US. al least in my wing of the family the name formerly Mockler and mockley and then altered to Moakley.

MY COUSIN'S NAME IS MOAKLEY AND THEY ARE FROM THE BROOKLYN/QUEENS NEW YORK CITY AREA AND STILL LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSE FOR OVER A CENTURY.
[DECENDANTS STILL LIVE THERE]

COULD IT BE RELATED????

Hi my name is keith ryan
i am trying differnt avenues to try an obtain information on my Grandfather William Ryan he was sent to live with relatives
at the age of 9 years old in 1907 from Waterford Ireland i believe they lived in the Brooklyn area its a long shot but you say your family have lived in the area for along time
My grandfather returned to England i do not know when but he married my grandmother in1919 after the Great War
as i said its a long shot but any information would be of help

My grandmother was a Moakley from Brooklyn. Her father is John Moakley and his father is John N. Moakley. Any relation?
