Interested Parties,
Whilst searching in a grave yard I found the following inscription on a memorial:
"In affectionate rememberance of
William Moakes
who died December ... 1919 aged sixty seven years
Thy will be done
In loving memory of my dear husband
Thomas Moakes
Died April 6 1941 aged fifty eight
A beautiful memory"
(The exact format of the inscription may differ from my transcfiption - it was taken down on a mobile phone.)
It was of interest to me as one of my ancestors was a Moakes. I hope it is useful to you. The memorial can be found at St Thomas's Church in Somercotes, Derbyshire. It is used as a paving slab in an abandoned corner of the yard. I believe has been moved and that the remains of the Moakes it concerns are located a short distance away under a school playing field.
Regards,
Danny Mountain
