James Moad born 1799 in South Shields, County Durham, England, son of James Moad, a mariner from the north of Britain, and Mary Stafford of Chester-Le-Street, County Durham. I would like to hear from anyone with Moad connections!

I have a Thomas Moad possibly born in North Carolina son of a James Moad born 1752 in Scotland who was in some kind of shipping. Worked the coasts of Ireland, Scotland and England. He may have married a Vanderpool. The story is that the Vanderpool was a distant cousin and after James married her they all came to the States. Does this sound familiar? Marti mccorkendale@juno.com

I think there is a distinct possibility that your James Moad could be related to my James Moad, b 1799 in South Shields, Durham, but I'm stuck at the moment on how to prove it. Do you have a parish record for the birth/baptism of JM born in Scotland?

No I sure don't. All I have is what someone sent to me with no documentation yet. All I can document is the marriage of one of my Hatfield ancestors to a Moad. Sorry! Marti

Hello Gary, Great to hear from you! I have been researching the Moad's of South Shields and have now got back to the 1700's, but I think that before that they came from Scotland, which is the puzzle I'm currently trying to solve. There may be a connection with a James Moad who emigrated to the USA also. I have a few contacts in the USA who are also researching Moad's. Some of what I have found so far is on my website www.geordie.eu.com , my email address is carol.green@virgin.net
Are you related to Winnie Moad?
All the best, Carol.

I am kind of new at the Geneology thing and am a bit stumped on Wylie Moad in Arkansas. The reason I am responding to your posting is because Wylie Moad I believe married Martha and their daughter, Derusha, married Columbus Green, my great grandfather. That is as far back as I can go but I was interested in learning if you have a Moad-Green connection and if you may know more about the family in Arkansas. Sounds like you are WAY further back than me... Thanks, Teresa

Hello Teresa, there is no connection between my Moad and Green ancestors (apart from me!). The MOAD's are on my mother's side of the family, and the GREEN's on my father's side. The MOAD information on my website www.geordie.eu.com is more or less up to date at the moment, I have a bit of work to do on the GREEN info, which I hope to do later this week. There is a intrasearch box on the home page of the site if you wanted to search quickly for a specific name or place on the site. Regards, Carol.

Carol, Thanks a lot for your board. It has TONS of interesting information. None of what is on there is anything that I am looking for apparently. I do have a couple of questions, and I thought there were a couple of interesting notes. My great-grandmother's parents were Wiley T Mode (Moad - they spelled it differently on different documents...) and Martha E. Fry. I have found Wiley in Scott Co. Arkansas in the 1860 Census. I thought it was interesting that on your tree James Moad in Mo. married a Ms. Wiley...thought there might be some connection there with naming a son??? Thanks for the input and I will keep looking!!! Teresa
