My g-grandmother, Anna MNICH, was born 11/20/1889 in Futoma, Rzeszow (Galicia) Poland. She came to the U.S. married my g-grandfather, Pawel (Paul) SOCHA in NH in 1914. He was born 6/15/1885 in Piatkowa, Rzeszow (Galicia) Poland. On the marriage certificate, Anna's name is spelled MUICH, and her parents are listed as Jacob MUICH Julia SOCHA. Since your request is also for the Rzeszow area, it's possible to have the same roots.

Hi, I'm very interested in any information because I know very little about the Mnich side of my family. I was told that the Mnich name is a shorter version. I don't know that version but very interested in what you find out. I would like to help you with any information. Thank You

While researching the Mnich surname while an undergraduate at the University of Notre Dame,I came across several towns by the following names: Mnich (2 separate towns by the same name ) Mnichov, Mnichowitz (also spelled Mnichovice)and Mnichovo Hradiste. All of these names are found in what is today part of the Czech Republic. My grandfather Marcel came to the United States from Galicia, then part of the Austrio-Hungarian empire, today part of Poland. The name seems most prevalent in the region from roughly Krakow, Poland to Prague, C.R.. My grandfather had five children, Adolf, Francis (my father), Helen, Jeanne, and Mary. My father had five children, three girls, myself and another male, Frank. I have two daughters, and one son, Jakob Mnich.

Do you have any additional information on a JOHN MNICH from Poland, who married Eleanora Bober. The family would have owned a brick factory in Poland, city unknown. It is unknown if he had any siblings. He and his wife had 8 children, and settled in McKeesport PA. The family name is now spelled MINNICK, also one uncle spelled it MINICH. Any information you may have would be deeply appreciated. You may e-mail me directly if you'd like

My mother was born in Mnichovice. It has always been in Czechoslovakia and of course now, the Czech Republic. I hope to visit there next year.

I am very interested in this lineage. My husband's grandmother is Lottie Mnich of Griffith, Indiana. His father is Connie Wayne Mnich, and his uncle was Dennis Mnich (he passed away a few years ago). I remember my father in law telling me that there was a family feud which split the whole Mnich clan. Some stayed behind in northern Indiana while the rest moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, which has a Mnich store. My husband had a great grandmother he always called "Busha" also living in Indiana (she passed a way a couple years ago at the age of 100 or more). She spoke only Polish, no English.
Is there anyway my husband might be related to any one of you? Let me know please :-)
