"To the Honorable the Legislature of Tennessee
We the Petitioners Humbly Sheweth That the large extant of Knox County renders it very inconvenient for the Citizens residing North of Clinch river to attend at Knoxville. Your petitions prays that Yuor Honorable Body May take it under Consideration to Grant Us a new and distinct County Boundering as follows To Witt Beginning on the Chesnut ridge at the place where the Knox and Grainger line passes the Same, Thence with teh Knox and Grainger line to Clinch river, thence a direct line to the Indian boundary at Cumberland Mountain where the Knox and Gainger line Strikes the Same, thence down sd Boundary line to Emerys river, thence down Said River to the injunction, thence up Clinch river to where the Copper ridge Strikes the Same (near the mouth of Beaver Creek) thence along the eastern higth of said ridge to Henderson & Cos. Survey, thence with the Said Survey to the eastern higth of the Chesnut ridge, thence along said ridge to the Beginning."
The reason of your petitioners praying for a direct line from Clinch river to the Indian Boundary Is because the Eastern higth of the Cross Mountain lan[?] as Mintioned in the Act of Assembly Can never be Accurately Asscertained."
