Clayton Minchew only lived with Loma until 1932 when she died, at that time he was brought home by my Mom to live. He was almost 5 years old. CO & Lester say they never remember him not being there with them. Also they said they never saw him get any whippings that they didn't get. He like CO & Lester worked sapping trees and cutting wood to help out the family. Also when they went into the service all three of them sent money home to help the family until they got married. This was out of respect.

Hayden, From what CO & Lester told me, (They couldn't remember Clayton not being there) CO said he remembered when Loma died in 1932 Mom had his hand & Lester in her arms fast walking to Lomas house. It was at that time my Mom made the decision to bring Clayton home, he would've been around 5 years old. Also if your listing to your Mom on who Clayton's Dad is you may have it wrong. My Mom and Dad was so called dating when Dad met Stella Kennedy and left my Mom for her. My Mom starting hanging out with the only young man in Wallace that had a car. Not long after that she became pregnant at age 15 and claimed it was Dad's. Of course in those days it was shotgun wedding.Mom @ Dad married at that time by jumping the broom. Later when a preacher came to town they had the preacher perform the ceremony, I do have the name of the young man she was seeing and it does not match either that Janet has. But I'll keep it to myself for now.

Tony, The Kennedy's came into our family when Loma Chavers McDonalds sister Zula married a Kennedy. My Dad said for years there was a feud between the Minchews and Kennedy although My Dad was dating a Kennedy before he married my Mom.

"Lost " Minchews

Mary Minchew was 20 and Jimmie was 2 when they both died on December 10, 1986. Both are buried at the Thigpen Cemetery in Picayune, MS. Both facts lead me to believe they may be mother and son, possibly killed in a car or some other accident.

Is anyone familiar with them? Who Mary may have been married to? Or if my theory is incorrect?

Columbus Washington Minchew and his 2nd wife, Julia had at least 8 children. One of them was a son named Henry. I believe his full name was Henry Edward Minchew b. Dec. 16, 1882 in Rains County, Texas. This date comes from a WWII draft registration card. The card also says he was married to a woman named Ramona.

Last census record I find for him is in 1910 in Logan County, Oklahoma where he is living with his mother and a couple of siblings. No death record, no marriage record, no nuthin' for him until a birth record for a Margaret Ann Menchew born in 1945 in Refugio, Texas to Henry and Ramona Gomez Menchew. Later, Richard Menchew is born to the same parents in the same place in 1948.

I'm almost certain these are the same people from the draft registration card, but I'm not 100% convinced. I've been wrong before on similar assumptions.

If anyone is familiar with this family, I'd like to hear from you.

Paul Minshew
Round Rock, Texas
paul2924@att.net

He is survived by wife Dorothy (he may have remarried); and says he is a retired grocer (and I think my wife said he and Jewell had a store in McGehee) (PS my wife is Jewell's grand-daughter) - is that him? I see him on findagrave, # 33339968 -- Thanks, Frank

Hi Joe,

Do you think or know if Jr's middle initial "S" stood for Seth like his dad's? It's a very plausible assumption, but I try to stay away from those when I can. I've just never found anything concrete on that subject yet.

John Seth Minchew/Minshew (depending on which record you look at) 1878 - 1910, was the oldest of five children born to John J. (1837 - ?) and Nancy Matthews Minshew (1857 - ?) of Nash County, NC. John Sr's wife was Lenora Parks Bland (May 25, 1888 - May 21, 1962) of Halifax County, NC. I think she was previously married to a man named Bland.

They had two sons that I know of, Robert Wiley (Mar 10, 1908 - July 2, 1971) and John Jr. (Apr 10, 1910 - Aug 29, 1976). Jr married Audrie Lucille McLaughlin (1915 - May 21, 2002). Does this sound right, or even close? They're not my branch of the family.

What is your connection to these folks? Is there other info you could share with me?

Paul Minshew
Round Rock, Texas
pminshew@austin.rr.com

I wasn't awre that John Jr. and Audrie ever had children. The more modern records aren't as easy to come by as the older stuff is.

John Sr was first married to Ann Cutchin(s) and had a few children prior to his marriage to Lenora. There are also several census and other records pertaining to your family on Ancestry. That's where I found most of what I have on them.

I have quite a bit on your branch of the family, dating back to the early 1800's. If you would care to have that, send me an e-mail address to my home e-mail: pminshew@austin.rr.com

I'm probably going to have some questions for you. Hope to hear from you soon.

Paul

Caroline Sophronia Minshew (Dec 1856 - 1916) born and died in Neshoba County, was one of six children born to Haywood and Rebecca Caroline Smith Minshew. She married Thomas Fincher Gamblin (Nov 1851 - Apr 1914) sometime around 1880.

Caroline is in the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1990 and 1910 census records for Neshoba with her parents and husband. I have been told Thomas and Caroline are buried in the Gamblin Family Cemetery in Arlington, MS. I haven't been able to verify that bit of info personally, so take it for what it's worth.

That's about all I have on her. The later census records should give you names of their children, if you're interested. I've let my membership to Ancestry drop because I can't afford it any more, so I can't help you with that. Wish I could.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Paul

My name is Larry James Minchew. I have been trying to do research on family history, especially dad's family. I noticed you have an Anna Belle, Clifton and Paul listed. These names come to mind from my childhood memories. We have a photo of an Anna belle as a child. She has Shirley Temple like curls. Somewhere there is a photo of a Paul Minchew if I am not mistaken. Was Clifton a Dentist? My Father Was Leroy Sinclair Minchew, born March 10 1920. I have been trying to get a copy of his obit. to see if his parents were listed. Ed and Mary are my beliefs. Really want to confirm this. I became aquainted with an Aunt Lorene, A dark haired woman, an Uncle "Coot", a short stoop shouldered balding man, and an Uncle Charlie, a heavy set reddish short cropped hair man. Aunt Lorene was married to a Henry, possibly Lavigne, Uncle Coot was married to a Geneva, not sure about Uncle Henry. Dad was from Washington County Ms. Kosciusko area. I also believe Dad had Half siblings. My E-Mail is ljminch@yahoo.com. I check it regularly. An Aunt Nicey also comes to mind.

Hi All, I haven't read all the posts here yet. Robert Glen Husselton is my wife's grandfather, and Jewel is her grandmother; My wife mentioned the other night that Jewel had a second husband, Carl Priest (sp?) (as you say) - I do not know when Jewel and Robert divorced (I am thinking around 1953, as my wife's mother was about 16, we think, when Robert and Jewel divorced...); but Robert G. then married Maude V. ("Mickey") (??? maiden name); Robert G. (1910-1981) and Maude V. (1912-1997) are both buried at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick, Benton County, Washington - they are both on Findagrave, with pics of headstones.. (I do not know if Robert and Maude had children of their own...) As I just found out about Carl Priest, I haven't researched him yet. As to baby Barbara (as mentioned 1941-1945) - I didn't know the dates, but my wife had mentioned the child Barbara (my wife's mother's sister) dying young... I have her name as Barbara Jean Husselton. (Does anyone know where Barbara Jean Husselton is buried? I have Robert and Jewel's residence in 1940 as Clayton, Desha, Arkansas.) -- If I find more information, I'll try to remember to put it here.. Thanks, Frank Pepper

Hayden, I'm not sure you have all the facts on my Dad Charles Leslie Minchew, Not Charles Lester. According to CO Minchew and Lester Minchew, My Dad treated Clayton the same as he did them. They remember at their young age getting wipped many times as I did and my brother Robert and sister Elizabeth. I actualy was wipped more by my Mom than my Dad. He was an easy going man and would many times give you good advise over a wipping. Another name that is a real possibility for Clayton's father is William Clayton Franklin known then as (Will Franklin). We will probaly never know the truth about any of the past because in those days, secrets were kept by many. Our Mom and Dad also never had a marriage lisence, they first had a ceremony by jumping the broom untill later when a traveling preacher came to town and married them, still there were no documents showing the marriage. CO states that he can never remember Clayton not being with them. From what I was told Clayton only lived with Loma about 18 months. So I guess we are all (Heinze 57)
