The original Bible seems to have been lost. From "Descendants of Jeremiah Mitchell and Allied Families" by Ann Mitchell Horne p 195
"The Bible record of the Moses Milliken family, in several forms, circulates among the Milliken/Milligan families of Brunswick and Columbus counties in North Carolina today. In the fall of 1993, Lou Floy (Watts) Milligan invited a group of Brunswick County Milliken researchers to meet and consult with us. Present were: Lou Floy (Watts) Milligan, Gwen (Clemmons) Causey, Ann (Mitchell) Horne, and Caroline (Mitchell) Haley. We visited Linda Robinson later at her home. Each of these women reported that the original Milliken Bible was last known to be in the possession of the 'Thompson family.' They did not know which family that might be.
During our visit, Linda Robinson of Bolivia, NC, shared with us a typescript of the 'original' that repeatedly noted 'very faded, page torn', etc. It appeared from the comments that someone was typing it from an authentic copy, or the original. The typescript contained penned adenda by an unknown author.
..... Since the dates in the Bible began in the early 1700's, it was not surprising that it appeared faded, and that pages were torn. The condition of the copies available to us required a search for other records that might verify the Bible record."

I wish Ann Mitchell Horne had included copies of this typescript in her book, but she didn't. If I could obtain copies, I would gladly scan then and put them on the web to share everyone.

Ann did a wonderful job of documenting these families, but as always happens, new information has been found since that updates what she found. The records proving the death of Moses Milliken that I placed on the web at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fcharper/MaryMurrel... is one example. Ann also believed that Gilbert McKeithan who m Moses' daughter Sarah Milliken was the son of Dougald McKeithan. This has been disproven as there is a record that states that Thomas McKeithan was the only child of Dougald McKeithan. The records of this McKeithan family do not state that Gilbert McKeithan was the son of Thomas McKeithan, but there was no other McKeithan in that area at that time who could have been his father. See McKeithan records at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fcharper/mckupdate....

I believe that a group of serious researchers could do more to prove this family if they pooled all their records and did more research into the old records of SC that have not been published. I don't believe the records have been exhausted het - only what's been published. There are a LOT of records that have never been published. We have to search beyond the known into the unknown if we hope to make more progress.
