Today I provide the purchase and sales deeds of John Milam of Chesterfield County. A couple things worth noting in the sales deed “on some branches of the Sappony” Creek and especially John Milam’s mark on his sales deed. The Sappony Creeks are northern tributaries of the Appomattox River (see attached Google map) which places his land about 15 miles east of Amelia Court House and 30 miles southwest of Richmond.

The second attachment above shows “his mark” which is unique in my experience and would be interesting to compare for similarities with the John Milam sales deed from Halifax County in 1780s, etc..

Chesterfield County, Deed Book 5, page 217: John Tillotson to John Milam, dated 31 OCT 1760; proved in court 7 NOV 1760

Chesterfield County, Deed Book 5, page 130; John Milam to Thomas Womack, dated 24 APR 1764; proved in court JUN 1764

Best regards,,,

William Milam, MD
