I do not have too much information as he divorced my grandmother when my mother was 5 years old. I do not that he lived in or near Armstrong County, PA and that he had a couple of sisters and a brother. Does this sound familiar to any one??

My grandfather, Anthony Micale, was born in 1898 in Sicily, also in a town very close to Messina... it was a cliff town, very beautiful and small, and it is still there but difficult to get to (my father was there 2 years ago... my father, his son, is Anthony Joseph Micale, born 1937 New Brunswick, NJ). Just wanted to comment on your message board... where is Barnesboro, PA? My grandfather came over with his father (Charles Micale) from that small town in Sicily at around 1912, worked in coal mines in western PA to gain enough funds to bring the entire family over to the US, then did so and settled in New Brunswick, NJ. My grandfather had about 7-8 siblings, most of whom have now passed away. Finally, I thought I would mention that one of my grandfather's brothers, Joseph Micale, who died in the 1990s, has a grandson with your name, Mark Micale, who I just saw on Thanksgiving. He is a deputy sheriff in Sarasota, FL. Anyway, I suppose if your grandparents and mine both came from the same town(?), maybe we are related. In any event, good luck with your search... Wendy Ann Micale (I am a divorced adult...I went back to my maiden name when I got divorced.)

Some similarities in Micale names

Hi Wendy. I was just reading through your posting and there seems to be some similarities in names. I am Micale by marriage...my husand's name is Natale Micale. His father is also Natale, as is his grandfather. So, let's go back to his grandfather...Natale Joseph Micale (born: July 1915). He is still living; however, there's was some big fallout with the family so they don't communicate anymore. Still, I have the names of some of his siblings...Anthony, Joseph, Michael, Jessy, and Santa...the last two being female. As for Anthony and Joseph, I have that Anthony married Minnie and Joseph has a daughter names Katherine. Does any of this sound right to you?
I started this family tree thing about 6 months ago...and I've gotten pretty far...mostly with my side of the family though. Since my husband's family had a falling out, it's hard to get any information other than what his father tells me.
I'd love to hear back from you...you can contact me at katmicale@rcn.com.
THANK!

Micale

I have a cousin named Mark Micale, but he lives here in Michigan. Our grandfather was Natale Micale, who was born near Messina in 1902. He came to the US to work with his father, Antonino Micale in the coal mines of western PA.

Hi Ed, By the way, I also received your message dated 2/14/01 in response to one I had written a few months ago on the message board. Anyway, I am curious about Antonio Micale..you gave me his brothers and sisters names, but I don't think my great-grandfather is included among them... i.e. my grandfather was Anthony Micale, who was born in Sicily (in a little town near Messina) in 1898. As you say, he did come over here to Western PA to work in the coal mines before settling in New Brunswick NJ. However, he was really young when he went there with his dad, who he went to PA with to work in coal mines and save money to bring the rest of the family over... and his dad (my great-grandfather's) name was something like Pasquale, and he was knick-named "Charles".... so my great grandfater was actually known as "Charles Micale" so I am told...anyway, maybe he still is related to Guiseppe and the others you mentioned in your message, i.e. if not as siblings, maybe as cousins or something? I mean, maybe Antonio Micale was his cousin if not his brother... either way, I know that Charles Micale and his son, my grandfather Anthony, soon brought the rest of the family over from Sicily and settled in New Brunswick, NJ. By the mid 1920s, my great-grandfather owned a great deal of the prime property in New brunswick (near Rutgers Univ), but unfortunately, they lost it all in the depression of '29. Well, take care, and this is to both you and the Kathy Micale in NY who responded to you also, if you are reading this at all too, I saw your messages, and if you want to know another Micale feel free to email me at wmicagirl@cs.com. I work and go to law school part-time so I am pretty busy, but I am always interested in knowing more Micale's. Wendy Ann

Wendy: Thank you for your response! Although it sounds like we are not related, it is always a pleasure to hear stories from people who share the same family name. Take care, and good luck in your endeavors.

Hi Kathy.... I think I forgot to respond to your anscestry.com message to me a week or so ago, sorry about that.. or maybe I did, it is hard for me to keep track... if so,(?) just ignore this one if you want... Anyway my grandfather Anthony did not have a brother named Michael nor a sister named Santa, so your husband's must be a different family set than mine.. although of course there still could be a relationship there somewhere, and there probably is, especially if they are from Sicily too. I just saw your posting on FamilyHistory.com.
I have two connections to the Micale.
My mothers sister Sarah was married to Angelo Micale of New Brunswick, NJ.
Both of them are now deceased. They had a set of twins who did not live past birth
and a daughter Rose Micale Formica Cipriani who resides in North Brunswick.
(my cousin Rose was married and widowed twice).
I know there was a set of male twins in my uncle Angelo's family...I'm not sure but
I think he was a twin with Anthony.

My second connection I only recently found out about. Last Saturday...3/24 I received a
copy of my maternal grandfathers birth certificate. His name was Ignatius Pitrone...his father was
Francesco (Frank) Pitrone and his mother was Rosaria Micale. So my great grandmother was a
Micale. My maternal grandmother was Frances Insana Pitrone. She and my grandfather came to this country around the 1900's to of all places BARNESBORO, PA.This is where they were married. Barnesboro is a small town north of
Johnstown and east of Pittsburgh in western PA. All of my mom's family was born there and my grandfather is buried there. He died in the terrible influenza epidemic of 1918 at the age of 33. My grandmother then came to New Brunswick which is where our family still resides.
My Sidotti (aka Sidoti) family also settled in western PA before settling in New Brunswick.
So...is there a connection?
Phil Sidotti
PS Ironically, I now live in Barnsboro (without the "e" in Southern NJ).

Hey Mark...We have a common connection to this name.

Micale connection...
I recently received the birth certificate of my maternal grandfather...Ignacio Pitrone.
His mother's name was Rosaria Micale and his father was Francesco Pitrone. He was born in S Pier Niceto in Sicily in 1885 and came to this country around 1900. So Rosaria Micale was my
great-grandmother.

Barnesboro, PA connection...
My grandfather first settled in Barnesboro, PA and worked in the mines. I believe this is
where he met and married my grandmother, Frances Insana.(also born in S. Pier Niceto 1889)
Sadly he was a casualty of the terrible influenza epidemic of 1918. He died 10/22/1918 at the
age of 33 Barnesboro...where he is buried. My grandmother was pregnant with my mom at the time
so my mom never knew her father.
Anyway...back to the Micale's...
Do you know if your grandfather had any sisters...or any other relative named Rosaria?
