Sorry, can't help you. My Grandmother, Mary Miano, was from S. Agato, Sicily and lived in Chicago, Ill. She had two estranged brothers, one living in Ohio, the other Indina.
Sure wish we had a connection as I am at complete loss on her background because it seems family did not know that the brothers had a sister.

My name is Giovanni (John) S. Miano, I was born in 1955 and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania until the age of 10, I have three brothers, George, Morris and Perry. I have an older sister, Maddalena. My father's name was Giovanni Filippo, but he went by Phillip. He came to this Country in 1953, after my Grandfather(his Dad), Sebastiano Miano, paid my mom Maria Rosa) and my grandmother(her mom) way to Sicily to meet my father. He lived in a small town outside of Messina, called St Alessio. We moved to California in 1965 or 1966. I went to Oliver Hazzard Perry School and lived across the street from the school, I think 18th, or 17th street, don't remember, if it is still ther. I remember a yellow brick building with coal dust discoloration on the outside walls. My Dad passed away at 47 in Modesto California in 1980, my mom passed away in Modesto California in 2002. I don't know if we are related or not. I know my grandfather had a brother I think named Joseph that came to the US young, I found an old newspaper clipping of a sailor who died in 1953 who's name was Joseph Miano, was a cousin of my dad. My Grandfather died in St. Alessio in 1974 or 75 at 89 Y/O, and my grandmother died a week later at 88. hope this helps

Oh My goodness! I'm not sure if you are who I am looking for... where do I start? I was adopted. Born in October of 1970. My mother was around 21 and was from Erie, PA. When I was looking on the paperwork I received, I could see the name "miano" (like from an old typewriter).... in the background of the paperwork. My mom's name they have listed as Sherri but I don't know if that is correct. She came to Williamsport, PA to have me at a home for unwed mothers, put me up for adoption then went back home. Her father (my grandfather) was an italian immigrant and was jeweler. He was 43 at the time of my birth. Her mother (my grandmother) is listed at 42 at the time of my birth and shows of english descent.

From what I know, my mother is still in PA.

Any information you have or could get, cousins or what not that were in Erie, I would so appreciate!

Even if she wants nothing to do with me, I would really like to know my family history. I have always been attracted to anything italian and it would be so nice to be able to say "this is where I came from".

Thank you so much!

Beth

I may not be who you are looking for, I do not have any relatives that I know of still living in Pennsylvania. I don't recall ever meeting any relatives while living in PA. with the last name Miano. As far as I know we have no-one named Sherri in our family, and we were in California 4 to 5 years prior to your birth, so I don't want to get your hopes up. However, I do know that my grandfather on my Dad's side had a brother that came to the U.S. and I think, not sure, his name was Joseph. He supposedly settled in the New York State Area, and I have an old news paper clipping from 1953 with a picture of a man in a sailor uniform announcing the death of a Joseph Miano, I am assuming was my father's cousin, the article stated they lived in New York State. So you might be realted through that part of our family. I have just recently contacted some cousins In Sicily that I've never had contact with before. This would be my Aunt's children(My Father's Sister), She is dead, her name was Pepina. I have just wrtten them a letter asking to help me with the Geneology of our family. I'm sure that my Grandfather's brother will show up somewhere in the list, and then I might find out that his children, my distant cousins, might lead somewhere for you. If so I will contact you. This might take some time, so be patient. You can e-mail me at gsmcjm@aol.com, when ever you are thinking about this and you have not heard anything.
