Hi, I've started researching my gr, gr, great grandparents; Peyton Marion Bass and his wife Margaret M. Mhoon. The information I have is that her father was James Mhoon and her mother Sallie Hughes (Sonicooie). Another family member has told me that Stark Mhoon was Margaret M. Mhoon's (1815-1855) brother. I do find quite a bit of information on Stark, but not on Margaret.??? I do know that Stark did have a daughter by the name of Margaret Jane Mhoon born 1833.(Maybe named after her Aunt ? ) Does anyone have any info on Margaret M. Mhoon/Bass ? Or any info. on Starks siblings ? Thank you so much for any help. It is very much appreciated. Tammy Dee from Oklahoma.

No info on Starks siblings or Margaret...but Stark was married to Mathenia Mullen and later to Sarah Mullen, both sisters to their bro Henry S. who is my ancestor. Do you have info on nationality of the Mhoons? My info shows some say full cherokee, others say it was german. It also shows spelling both as Moon and then as Mhoon.

Hi Tammy Dee,

I am also researching for my maternal line. so far, it ends with the mother of Mary Parilee Bass, b 8Dec1848 Dallas Coounty, Ark. Her mother is Margaret Martha Mhoon or Martha Margaret Mhoon the first wife of Peyton M. Bass. She died in 1855 in Tulip, Ark when my Gr Gr grandmother Mary Parilee Bass was 5 years old. That is in the 1850 census. In the 1860 census Peyton had remarried to Elizabeth Underwood (I think)and she was 21 yrs in 1860 census and they had two more children at that time. Th e 4 older children were Monroe, 16; Martha F 14; MARY PARILEE 10; and Thos J., 9. Grace D is the 3 yr old and Candis the 1 year old. I would like to have more info about Sallie Hughes who is her mother (maybe also a child of Sallie Hughes and sister to Margaret) although I cannot find such info as yet. Would love any help. RE, LL, I am also from Henry his son Calvin I too am interested in this Mhoon / Indian . It seems this has caused a lot of debate on the net . I do not believe the Mullen are from a actual Indian nation but there could be some trace thru marriage . The Mhoon family was turned away by the Cherokee Nation at least twice that I know of for lack of proof . And from then on it seems it has been quite a shouting match . There is some evidence that points to the fact that Sally Hughes may not have been Stark's mother but in fact a Susan Hughes . Although there is no ill will towards the Mhoon family (cousins) . It would be nice if this could be cleared once and for all..... theresamullen@rocketmail.com ....I would be happy to chat with anyone on this subject ......
