William D. Steinkamp's father was a sailor who sailed out of Bremen, Germany. His name was John Peter Steinkamp. Williams mother ws Magdalena Johanna Hasselbusch born 1835 in Hanover, Germany amd died in 1890 in Honcut, Butte County, Califormia. John and Magdelena are buried in Honcut Cemetery. Honcut Cemetery is located northwest of La Porte Road near Honcut surrounded by a fence and locked gate on private property. It is run down and owners do not allow access.
John was a sailor working out of Bremen starting when he was 15 in 1845. The last entry for John in the Bremen Sailors Registry was a muster dated March 27, 1848 on the ship Livonia for New York. This was the last entry and since I can find no immigration record, he may have jumped ship in New York in 1848 and headed for California.
