R.E. Meriwether Died Saturday

Robert E. Meriwether, better known as "Uncle Bob", died at the home of his son, Douglas Meriwether, near town, last Saturday at the age of 81 years. Funeral services and burial were held Sunday morning at the city cemetery.

Robert E. Meriwether, Confederate Soldier, 12 Ky. Cav. Descendant of the grandfather of George Washington, First President of U.S. Son of Robt. E. Meriwether and wife, Susan H. Terrell; born in Carroll County, Mississippi, March 7, 1845; moved to Ballard County, Ky. in January, 1859; married Mollie Hays in the year 1879; died at his home in La Center, Ky., May 1, 1926, is survived by a sister, Margaret Davis, Pomona, Cal., by a foster brother, Geo. B. Wilds, of Wickliffe, Ky., by threee sons, Douglas, Bernard, and John E. Meriwether; and by seven grandchildren, Robert E., son of Douglas and wife Eleanor Simmons; Bernard C. and twin sisters, Blanche E. and Sarah Lillian, children of Bernard and wife, Blanche Ragland, and Margaret, Wm. Robert and John W. children of John E. and wife, Marcia Viets. Deceased was a good Samaratan (Luke, 10:30-37) binding up wounded strangers and caring for them until well; he fed the hungry, (Math. 25: 35-36), clothed the naked, visited the sick and those in prison, and for so doing the KING hath said unto him, (Math. 25:34), "Come ye blessed of my Father, and inherit the kingdom prepared for you," etc. And he went May 1, 1926.

He is not dead, but liveth (Luke 16:19-31) and has been taken by the Angels into Abrahams bosom. He is not lost, but only gone before.

He regarded Death as the most beautiful adventure in life and approached it like one ...
