Henry Melcher was born in Hanover, Germany on November 1, 1864 and passed away at his home in Concordia, Kansas on Tuesday morning, July 21, 1936 at 9:30 o,clock at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 20 days. He came to America in 1883, locating in Cleveland, Ohio, where he lived for two years. Coming to Kansas in March 1885 he located at Waterville where he resided until 1910 when he and his family moved to Concordia. On February 25, 1890 he was married to Karolina Von Vatarlaus of Zurich, Switzerland, who survives him together with six daughters and one son, one daughter dying in infancy. The surviving children are: Mrs Mary Beesley, Miltonvale, Kansas, Mrs. Ella Heaton, Jamestown, Kansas, Mrs. Edith Wagner, Riverside, Calif., Henry J. Melcher, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs, Marie Scott, Riverside, Calif. Mrs. Margaret Bryan , Platte City, and Clara Melcher of the home. Also the following grand children: Marvin, Clarine, and Charlotte Beesley, Harold Heaton, Clyde Taylor, Mrs. Mary E. Morris, Eugene, Karolina, Henry Jr. and James Kieth Melcher, Marjorie Scott, and one great grand - daughter Joyce Irene Morris. He also leaves three brothers, Fred J. of Kansas City, Mo., Herman of Dodge City, Kansas, and Gerhard, of San Francisco, Calif. and one sister, Mrs Mary Moore of Okemah, Okla. After coming to Concordia he was engaged in the cream and produce business until about two years ago when ill-health forced him to retire. In his early youth he united with the Lutheran church in Germany, which faith he followed during his life. He was a quiet and unassuming man, devoted to his home and family and a good citizen. Funeral services were held at the home in Concordia at 8:30 on Friday morning when the remains were brought here for burial in the family lot in Riverside cemetery The Luthern pastor, Rev. I. B. Heisey held a short service at the grave
