Here is what I can tell you about the christian association's of my Melcher Family.

Original family records were kept in Germany by Catholic Priests in their hometown village. When the German ancestors came to America and to the Louisville, KY area they attended, married and baptised their children in the Catholic Church. Early ancestors are buried in Catholic cemetaries. Family members changed their home church in the early 1850's and may have been involved in fighting for burial rights for the poor. Later members of the family have been buried in general population locations. Still, later generations removed to Southern Indiana and joined Lutheran denominations.

I have often wondered if the priest followed the family for their association with the bible king, Melchoir. I have never seriously searched it either way.
