I recently received new information on my wife's Medalie/Medalia Heritage. Her great-great grandfather was indeed David Medalia. But this David was born in 1818 in Papile. His father was Yacov/Yankel, son of Lieb.

I have also been told that all the Medalie's from Papile were from one family. I would be interested in establishing the connection to your familiy.
Thanks
Mark Strauss (wife: Jaye Medalia) in NYC
markes@aol.com

My wife's family name is Medalia. Her great-great-great grandfather was David Medalie from Papile, Lithuania. Many in the family immigrated to Israel in the 1880's and helped found Rishon Le Zion. (In Israel, the name became Medalya.) Would love to know if others are connected to this family. Thanks.
Mark Strauss and Jaye Medalia in New York City

Ann,
I am interested in finding out more about your grandfather Medalie Shmer-Leiba Yankelevich. My great-grandmother was Shifre Yankelevitz daughter of Kalman Mordehai Yankelevitz and Teible (Elka Tova)Israelewitz. Their other children were Jacob Max, Esther Rachel, Abraham Isaac, Haya Lea, Hanna, and Joseph. They were all born in Minsk, Belarus...Timkovichi, Kopyl, or Grozovo. Any that came to the US changed their names to Cohen, Cohn, and Yankowitz. Thanks for any help.

In searching for some Klaff mishpacha, I found a Sarah Klaff who married Barney Joshua Medalie. This is a branch of the family I am not familiar with and would like to see if anyone has any information on Barney and Sarah. It appears that part of this family ended up in South Africa. Barney's parents were Jacob and Beila Gluckman.
If anyone can shed any light on whose child Sarah Klaff was, I would appreciate it. It might be yet another missing branch of the tree.

Hello,
My name is Yuliya Melnyk. I live now in Kirovohrad, Ukraine. My granny's maiden last name is Medalie (of course in Ciryllic font). She is alive (born in 1916). I have always known her maiden name, but I haven't done any research of my origin before. I decided to do after I studied for a year in the US. People are interested in this much there. My granny's father was Ivan Medalie and his father Alexander. Ivan lived in Novosokolniki and was born either in Poland or Latvia. If it gives somebody some information, please let me know. Ivan's brother lived in Baku and was poisoned there.

Is it possible that Medalyer is a corruption of the Medalie name? I know that my paternal grandparents came from Riga in Latvia. My grandfather was Julius Medalyer, my grandmother Raysel (nee Greenter)

Other than my immediate family in London, I've been unable to find any mishpocha.

Can anyone throw any light on this?

I look forward to hearing from someone.

I live in Boston, my grandfather, Harry was from Riga, Latvia (we think). Some of his family left for South Africa, and some came to the US. We always thought that if the name was the same, that we are related.
On another note, my sister and I went to Tyumen and Moscow in March, 2002, where she and her husband adopted a beautiful baby boy.
