Linda, I'm related to the Mead's through Sanford's uncle. Would like to swap information. How far back do you have their ancestry?

Pat

Pat, It's been awhile since I've worked on the Mead collateral lines. I do go back as far as William Mead b. 1757 enlisted in Rev. War. 5th Virginia Regiment, Muhlenburg's Brigade. William was married to Sarah Garland 1790 Louisa County, Virginia. He died January 25, 1831 Eaton's Crossroads, Roane Co., Tennessee. William Mead had a brother, Thornton and possibly Henry. I'm descended from William's son, William Minor Mead. I didn't enter all the information about the Kemp connection to my line, but tell me, your line and I'll see if I can connect it. I'm thinking they were off the line of Mead's that settled in Georgia. Linda

Thank you for your quick response. That's funny as I just got a message from another descendant of William Minor Meade concerning another family. Actually, your William was a brother to my Minor M. Meade who lived in Carroll County Georgia. They were son's of Thomas Meade of Spotsylvania County Virginia. My Minor M. Meade was the grandfather of Sanford Minor Meade, through his son, Tyre Landers Meade. I also have a lot on Sanford and his three wives, and many more of the Meade'sin Georgia and Virginia. I'm trying now to find a possitive connection to the Minor's. No easy task. Do you have anything on the Minor family?

Pat

I have been searching in vain for many years trying to find why the name Minor was passed on. The Minor name must have been very important and significant. I would like to see additional proof that Thomas Mead was the father or at least find out his full name. In none of my research have I found out where William Mead was born; just that he was born in 1757. I would also like to know what Minor M. Mead's middle name was. Do you know? If you find out the Minor connection, we'll have to break open the Champagne. It looks like you are as far back as I got--that brick wall! Good luck with your research.

I don't know if anyone knows Minor M. Meade's middle name. There was even a Minor Minor, so who knows. His middle name could have come from the Meade side, and since we have no proof of who the father of Thomas was, that may not be found in my lifetime. Even Minor's pension papers don't give that information. The name Minor was passed down many times though. He even had a grandson named Minor M. Mead.

I know that William and Minor were brothers, and if it was my Minor that witnessed for his siblings at their marriages, I think it's pretty clear who they all were. The orphans records indicate that Thomas was their father. Three of the boys were indentured to William Garrett after the death of Thomas(there were Garrett's in part of the Vivion and Minor family), and the girls to Ludwell Abraham. I have no doubt that Thomas was their father. What I have to question is the connection that researchers make with Thomas and David Meade. If there was a connection, it may have been that they were very distant cousins, but I don't see how they were father and son. Having said that, I still see odd coincidences between the two families. The names Thornton, Vivion, and Lewis were also passed down. You'll find those names connected to the Minor's. It's possible that Thomas was married twice, but even so, I believe all or most, of the children had the same mother.

As to the birthplace of these Meade's, it's hard to say, because the boundaries likely changed within the years that the children were born.

It's been a brick wall, but I continue to research every lead I find.

Pat
