REV. COLA D. R. MEACHAM,b. Waterloo, P. Q., Oct. 10, 1838, of Vermont parents, who returned to Newport in 1844. Educated North Troy and Derby Academies; graduated New Hampton Institute at Fairfax, Vt., 1867; Newton
Theological Seminary, 1870; post-graduate work at Harvard University. Ordained at Barre, Mass., 1870. Pastor there, North Scituate, Ashland and Canton, Mass.; Long Pine, Neb.; and at Townshend, Vt., seven years, where he raised
funds for rebuilding Leland and Gray Seminary. Superintendent of schools at Townshend. While at Townshend he travelled in Europe and Palestine. He was versed in natural history, especially botany, was also quite gifted as a writer of verse. Pastor of Baptist Church at Passumpsic, 1899-1904; town representative,
1902. Returned to Townshend and preached there till Apr., 1906. Res. with oldest son at Chicago a while; returned to Passumpsic, preached two Sundays; went to Newport, and d. June 3, 1907. He m. June 14, 1870, Electa Dustin, dau. Hale and Judith (Dustin) Grow (b. Topsham, July 13, 1834; d. at
Passumpsic, Nov. 28, 1902; buried at Passumpsic). She was a great granddaughter of Rev. Peter Powers of Newbury who preached the first sermon in Barnet.
