Looking for information on descendents of Jeremiah Mitchum of Anson County NC. He was Meachum in the 1850 census but later documents list him as Mitchum. He was son of Henry Meachum of Anson County. Any info on Henry would be a bonus.

My ggggrandfather James named a son also Jeremiah Mitchum. He spelled our family name Mitchum in TX and Michum also.

Love to hear from you!
Are you related to Jeremiah??? If so you will be the first descendant I have found.

yes i am related-jeremiah>caswell>sidney>robert>John>me---my great grandfather sidney who died in 1969 always said his uncles went out west--and that is all we know. caswell is buried in fountain hill cemetery, which is in anson county near the union line. i have a copy of jeremiahs will but i am going on memory for now. jeremiah did have 2 wives. spicey ant then colon. he clearly spelled his name MITCHUM, the census takers changed it to meachum or meachem which complicates things. caswells headstone is mitchum. caswell was married to a traywick, asa's daughter. randy travis (traywick) is distantly related. sorry, i have been off the geanology thing for a couple of years

I'm not sure if you are still looking, but thought I would let you know that my husband is descended from Jeremiah Mitchum. My husband is James W. Mitchum, his father was James Lee Mitchum (b Anson County NC 1924) James Lee was son of Curtis Caswell Mitchum (b 1902 Co NC). Curtis was son of Samuel M Mitchum (b 1863 Anson Co NC). Samuel was son of Caswell Milton Mitchum (b 1836 Anson Co NC). And Caswell was son of Jeremiah Mitchum (b approx 1807, VA or NC?) I believe Jeremiah was son of Henry Mitchum. I have a copy of Jeremiah's will, and would be interested in sharing any information with you. Thanks.

Nice to meet ya.

Yes Jeremiah H and Henry H are both sons of Henry Meachum b bet 1760 and 1770 but he is not the Henry H Meachum b 20 Feb 1766 d 11 July 1836 who married Nancy Smith
The 2 older Henry's are 2 seperate individuals

Both had a son named Henry H
Only Henry b 1760-1770 had a son Jeremiah

Email me privately at dlamel@sw.rr.com and I will share information with you.

I have by the way worked on both sets of Mitchum and Meachum
from Anson Co NC

I believe my 3rd grandfather James Mitchum b bet 1784 and 1794 NC was a brother to Jeremiah H and Henry H.
I just have no solid proof only circumstantial evidence

My James came to TX bet 1835 abd 1836

Hi. I read that you had done a lot of work on the Meachums of Anson, NC. I am descended from Tally Maness, brother of Spicey Maness. It never occured to me that the name could have been turned into Mitchum by the census takers of the day! I have not been able to find very much on Jeremiah Meachum, husband of Spicey. I don't know if they had children. Do you know if there is any Native American connection with this family? I would appreciate any information very much. Of course I will also share anything I can with you as well although it seems you have worked hard on the Meachums. Thank You very much, Brenda Griggs Reuter Bgreuter%aol.com
