I'm researching a MEACHER family which originated in Hants. with James b abt 1775, and moved to Bermondsey, Surrey (now London). My branch left there just before 1920. Do you know the 1st name or any other details of the murdered MEACHER please? Thanks.

Hi,
From a family tree compiled by Micheal E Meacher A.R.I.B.A St. Albans in 1986.
Henry George Meacher (my great grandfather)was born 1862 in the Westminster parish.
He was a milkman living at 34 Neate St. Camberwell SE5.
He married Eliza Jane Howes in 1883.
They had 7 children one being my Grandfather and another his sister called Rose.
Rose Meacher was born 1897?
She had a florist shop in Deptford Broadway.
She married a chap called Basil Bright in ?
They are recorded on this tree as having 4 children.
Jack, William, Kitty and Rose.
There is no other information about this couple and I have not heard of a murder.
This is very interesting and I hope you find this helpfull.
The name Meacher may be from the French Metier (a measurer or surveyor) or Metayer (a small farmer)
The name may have come via Jersey. There is one family on the tree with all spellinga as theparents could not read or write, the registra put down what they thought it should be spelt.
You may have rec'd this info. already as I have sent a previous message, however I don't think I did it right.
The tree I have, was compiled by Micheal E. and the first entry is John Metier marrying Elizabeth Olding in 1596
From the Bucks and Herts branch 1760's on the name is spelt Meacher.
My brother spoke to the Meachers in Southhamton (Meachers Transport)But there was no obvious connection.
Sincerelly,
Dave Meacher
