Obituary from the Yakima, Washington "Yakima Herald" Newspaper, April 24, 2011:
"YAKIMA - Beatrice T. Meabon Harrison, 97, passed away on April 21, 2011 at home. Bea was born to Howard and Elsie Meabon on Jan. 4, 1914 in Westfield, New York. At the age of 4 she moved with her family to Grandview, then to Benton City. Beatrice graduated from Benton City High School in 1933.
It was in Benton City that she met her future husband, Roy Harrison. They were married on Jan. 1, 1937 and made their first home in the Wenas Valley north of Selah. Here the family was engaged in farming and raising turkeys. As a young mother Bea helped with the hand picking and drawing of the birds. In Jan. of 1942 they bought an orchard in the Selah Heights area where they farmed for 57 years. Beatrice helped in any job that needed done on the farm while finding time to raise two kids. During World War II with no refrigeration available Bea canned and preserved the family's food. During summer months she kept food cool by storing it in jars in the irrigation head box.
In 1999 Bea and Roy moved to town in Selah where Bea lived until 2010 when she moved to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Yakima.
As a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star she was active for 55 years. Bea held most offices including Worthy Matron several times in the Selah Nile Chapter. Later she became a member of Yakima's Syringa Chapter where she continued to hold an active role. She held several state level offices and enjoyed traveling to visit various Eastern Star Chapters. She was an accomplished seamstress, making her own formals as well as her daughter's wedding dress. As her children became members of Job's Daughters and DeMolay Boys Bea began working as a Guardian for those groups. Her work with these youth groups continued long after her children were grown and expanded to include Rainbow Girls.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy, son Roger, an infant son, her parents, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by a daughter Myrna Weinman (Larry), grandchildren Derek Weinman, Jill Cunningham (Mike), Tina Warner (Craig), all of Yakima, David Harrison of South Carolina, great grandchildren Jacob, Katie, and Chris Warner, Maya Cunningham, all of Yakima, sisters Donna Davis of Benton City and Ruth Turner of Longview.
Our family expresses thanks to Mom's care givers and to her Memorial Hospice staff who were so helpful during her final weeks.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life for Bea at the Club House of Summitview Country Condominiums (101 N. 48th Ave. in Yakima) on April 29 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to the new Memorial Hospice House or the donor's choice of charity."
