Thomas Mea b 1826 or so, emigrated with parents? to Waddington, St. Lawrence Co., NY about 1834. Married an Alice Ruth Morgan from Ontario 1852 in Waddington but eventually moved to Smiths Falls, Ontario. My info says he came originally from Co. Longford but Griffiths Valuation and Irish Civil Records of b/m/d indicate the MEA group were primarily from Co. Mayo. Are we connected?

I came acress your message. My father's name was Eugene Mea. He was born in 1900 in the Wilmington DE area. His father's name was John and his mother's name was Margaret Donnely. I'm not sure if I spelled her last name correctly. My father had an older brother named John and a sister Margaret. His paretns died young. He was placed in an orphanage. An uncle named Patrick Mea took him from the orphanage at 13. He lived with him for some time. There are many gaps. My father claimed his family was from Cork. This may be the case, but I've heard that most Irishmen claim Cork as their county of origin. My father had one son Eugene Jr. He died in 1986 leaving no sons. He had two daughters Audrey who also died, and me, Roberta. My Uncle John had three sons, John Jr., Edward, and Joseph. There are quite a few sons and grandsons descended from my Uncle in this area (Delware County PA).

Roberta,

The MEA name is a tough one for me to trace. I have noted numerous other Mea branches in the US from about the mid 1700s, through the revolunionary war, civil war, etc. I don't think any of them are my branch but likely yours. Many of the MEA references are noted in the various Ancestry.com data sites (free sometimes during the year especially at xmas). Unfortunetly I don't think we are directly connected. Review of the Irish civil records indicates that the MEA family was exclusively from the town of Ballirobe, Co. Mayo! Mine say they came originally from Co. Longford yours from Cork...whos to say!

Good luck in your quest. Will put you in my file for future reference should I come up with anything.

Eric

I am not sure how this might fit, yet my great grandmother was Hannah Mea. She married and named her children Margaret and Joesph. She married in Baltimore and the witness to my grandmother christining was either Joesph Mea or John Mea according to my mother. Lynn

Thanks for the note Lynn. Unfortunetly at this time I cannot verify any connection between our MEA lines. I can tell you for sure that all the MEA's originally came from Co Mayo in the late 1700s and very early 1800s. Good luck in your hunt.
