George -

I actually have no "official" involvement in the US Clan Currie Society, but have spoken with the president of the Society on several occasions. I simply decided to create a website several years ago after being frustrated by the lack of material on the Currie family.

This of course is very ironic, considering that we were the last bastions of Gaelic literary and historical tradition. Apparently, our ancestors were too busy writing of others instead of keeping our own story together.

Several pages that would be of note if you would like more in depth information on the origins are:

http://currieart.com/clancurrie/hist/mhuirrich.htm
http://currieart.com/clancurrie/scot/curriecolrevisited.htm

I think you will see just from these small studies that the Encyclopedia was erroneous in their research, but I am impressed that they tried.

Personally, I feel that our family has accomplished some of the most overlooked contributions in ancient Scottish history, and it is indeed a shame that our relatives have such a hard time discovering our story.

Best wishes, and please get in touch if you have any questions. My home email is currie1@bellsouth.net

Brent Currie
Roswell, GA

Hi Brent, I really valued the time and effort you put to this reply. You certainly did not put more than I asked for. I was impressed by your message's contents and would still relish more! It was about 30 years ago when I received the Encyclopaedia Britannica Library report. They sourced their information from various literature and what I mentioned to you is only a brief of what was quoted. But the general theme was as I mentioned.

Brent what you have written to me, I believe should be placed into the Currie message boards for others to read. The McVurrich name is one very few would look at as has been proven until you spotted the sole entry of mine. Your reply would draw a lot of both praise, comment and open it up for criticisim if anyone wished to challenge you. But I believe it would be very positively received - over to you!

When I have the chance (this does not happen often) I would like to take up the reading of the Currie Clan details and if I can locate the Britannica reports, which have not surfaced for a long time, to see if there are ties or similarities. My notes were only a brief summary of what I was able to glean from them.

You could well here from me again - maybe you could enlighten me as to your role, rank or involvement in the US "Currie" Clan? In other words what is your interest and origin within the "Currie" family structure, if I am allowed to ask? Best wishes to you and I will look forward to your message being posted on the Currie pages!!! George - NZ

McVurrich Connection to Currie

I am interested in any one being able to offer any further information on the origin of Currie. I did some research with the Encyclopaedia Britannica a few years ago and their results were that the Currie nam originated from McVurrich some 1200 odd years ago, was modified to McVurrie to McRurrie and finally to Currie of the past 4-500 years, with the "C" being the remains of "Mc". I will be interested in any information related to this theory. George Currie - Methven, New Zealand
