George -
I actually have no "official" involvement in the US Clan Currie Society, but have spoken with the president of the Society on several occasions. I simply decided to create a website several years ago after being frustrated by the lack of material on the Currie family.
This of course is very ironic, considering that we were the last bastions of Gaelic literary and historical tradition. Apparently, our ancestors were too busy writing of others instead of keeping our own story together.
Several pages that would be of note if you would like more in depth information on the origins are:
http://currieart.com/clancurrie/hist/mhuirrich.htmhttp://currieart.com/clancurrie/scot/curriecolrevisited.htmI think you will see just from these small studies that the Encyclopedia was erroneous in their research, but I am impressed that they tried.
Personally, I feel that our family has accomplished some of the most overlooked contributions in ancient Scottish history, and it is indeed a shame that our relatives have such a hard time discovering our story.
Best wishes, and please get in touch if you have any questions. My home email is
