This sounds a lot like your talking about my great grandfather. Seeing the other lady speaking here is my Aunt,
I think I am looking in the right places too.

I don't want to sound presumptuous, but do you know any other relatives dating further back? Thanks... Dan Johnson djohnson78@gmail.com

Hi Kerri,
Thanks for your message.
My great great grandparents on my Mum's side were
Daniel McAlinden born ? married to Alice O’Hagan(or Hagan).
Their son James, born 1872, is my Mum's grandfather. He married (?) Sarah Balmer, also born 1872, and at some time migrated to Scotland.
I haven't been able to go further back than them given Irish records are not the best (or non-existent!)
Perhaps we could give each other access to our Ancestry.com trees and compare further although you seem to have gone further back than me on the Irish side.
Are you in Western Australia? Your message seems to suggest you are.
My Email address is
clarkken@bigpond.com
Hope to here from you soon.
Regards,
Ken,
Mt Nasura

Hi Ken, I too am researching the McAlinden's from Newry, Ireland. I would love to establish a link between my McAlindens and the town of McAlinden here in WA. (I have had no luck in determining the history of the town or who it was named after). Below is a list of some of the McAlinden's I have so far. I have more but would love to go further back. Anything you could add would be much appreciated.
My father-in-law - Gary (Danny (the boxer) McAlinden's first cousin.
Gary's father - Hugh Bernard - born 1927 Crobane, Newry, Ireland.
Gary's gradfather - Daniel McAlindon born 1890 – married Mary Reavy, Newry, Ireland. (I have no siblings for him as yet but have been told that he had 2 sisters?)
His father was Daniel McLinden born 1868 and married to Margaret “Unknown”, Rathfriland, Co. Down, Ireland. This Daniel has siblings: Mary, Alice, Hugh, James.
Their father was Daniel McAlinden born ? married to Alice O’Hagan (or Hagan) in Rathfriland also.
That’s it so far.
Any info you have would be great! :)
Cheers,
Kerrie

Just wanted to post this to see if it had any links with anyone else. My grandfather, James Bernard McLindon, was the first to be born in the USA in Salamenca, NY in 1899 (I think.) Bernard had a younger brother, John. Their parents were Bernard McLindon and Elizabeth Brennan. From what I remember the name was changed from the McAlinden variation and we believe that Bernard and Elizabeth came from County Down.

Hi.
When I immigrated to the USA, in 1990, I faced what previous immigrants faced, the problem of people understanding my surname. So I dropped the MCA. and used LINDEN for quite a while. I have found that many MCALINDEN,s had done the same. It is sad that we have to change our identities to feel accepted. Alas, as immigrants, and proud Irish people, we all wanted to feel accepted.
Fortunately, I have resumed my full Surname. And proudly, Spell it for all those not so cultured Americans.

I am looking for any information about my great grandmother Margaret McAlinden ~1840's. She was married to Neil Fitzpatrick. They lived in the Banbridge area and several of their children were born there, but may also have lived in Belfast at some point. Their children are- Thomas, Patrick, Minnie, Kitty, Susan, and Maggie. Maggie is my grandmother. The McAlinden name is spelled several different ways on various records I've found. On one form my great grandmother's name is listed as Margaret McAlinden Mcloury (Mclory). My great grandfather is listed as a laborer on the early birth records, as working for the railroad later, and lastly as a landscape gardener. Time frame ~1870 - ~1900. Any connection with those names -any body?? Thanks.

In the directory for belfast and Province of Ulster 1863 I have a Hugh McLyndon of Obins St. publican and manufacturer.
Dave,
I live in Obin St Portadown and don’t recognize the name McLyndon. However the name McAlinden is well known around town.
I don't think there are any McAlindens left in Obin St. - though some of those who did live there are still in or around town.
I am a Mulholland, had an uncle named Cornelius who died in the sixties. With a name like that there is almost certainly some connection.
Where are you now ?

Hi Dave, I am researching my family name Kilgore and have run into a blank wall. My four greatgrand father was James Kilgore of Darlington ,SC. and was married to a Sarah Elizabeth ?. It has come to my attintion that she may have been a Mclindon. Thy may have lived in Chesterfield prior to 1790. Do you have any one in your line with the name Sarah Elizabeth that may have married a Kilgore. We are pretty sure our family came from Ireland too. Any help on this mystery will be much appereciated. Thanks, Cindy McGehee

I am looking for a McLyndon. I believe his name was John, and he was born in Ireland about 1855 or earlier. He worked in the coal mines in Pennsylvania. He would be my material grandmother's father. Her name was Mary McLyndon. He was suppose to have died in the coal mines either before or after she was born in 1876. Her mother's name was Catherine Toohey McLyndon. Today I found a J. Toohey who was a miner in in Nevada Gulph, Kansas in 1860. He was 21 or 26. I was wondering if this may be him. McLyndon doesn't appear to be a common name, so there must be some connection. Thank you if you can give me any leads. My mother would be most pleased.
