McKillops and Reids from Cushindall in Antrim

My great great grandfather was William McKillop, who was married to Mary Reid, and they were from Cushendall, Moyle District They were Roman Catholic. Their first two children Daniel and James were born there, then they came to the US in 1864 and had more kids, including my great grandmother (Sarah). The men wer boat captains… several fathers, sons, brothers. They lived in Greenpoint Brooklyn near a bunch of other McKillops, and some Reids nearby, so I assume they were all family.

I”m trying to trace them further back in Ireland, and Scotland before that. I think William’s father was also William and his mother Margaret Black. Anyone with any info - it would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any info?

Thanks!

Kenneth Colin Joseph McKillop

I would like to hear from members of the family of Kenneth Colin Joseph McKillop, born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1922. He served in the Australia Armed Forces and was married twice I believe - the second time to an aunt of mine.
I believe he has passed away but cannot find out any definite date. Ken is on the electoral rolls for 1972.
Ken's father is James Joseph McKillop and the address on Ken's enlistment papers say his fathers address is Osborne Road, Mitchelton, Queensland.
If you can help me with information about Ken and his life, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Janice

Ann McKillop in Tennessee

I am looking for Ann McKillop who was in Washington County, TN in 1804,1808, and died there about 1819. Her will lists children Mary Purcell, Ann Kip, James, Isaac, and Peninah. Peninah was her only heir and is last shown on 1840 Washington County Census. There is an Isaac McKillop in the War of 1812 records who was born 1785 in Berkely County VA (now West VA).

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Sam Morgan

email: mshmorg@charter.net

Re: David II clarification?

This research was done by my cousin Carolyn and her brother Norman. I hope it helps.

From:
Carolyn Miller (imiller96@aol.com)
Date:
Saturday, August 29, 1998 06:01 PM

Researching David MacKillop and Margaret Drummond married
June 23, 1694 in Kincardine Parish, Perthshire, Scotland. They
had at least three daughters: Janot, Margaret, and Katrin - born br>between 1698 and 1707. They moved to Londonderry, Ireland.
They emigrated to New Hampshire area of Londonderry and
Salem. David and Margaret may be buried in Salem, NH.
David II, son of David and Margaret, was born on the ocean.
There is no proof of this as his birth was recorded at Chester,
NH as 1709. It is assumed that the McKillop family went from
near Castle Stirling, Scotland to protestant Ireland (counties of
Antrim and Londonderry) long before any members of the
family came to America.
With all the variations in spelling, this is definitely a family web.
Looking for connections to Scotland ancestry.

Carolyn

Genealogy Outline

for the Descendants of

David I McKillop

Generation No. 1

1. My family was is the Archibald McKillop and Janet McMillan line. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Thomas, Sarah and Anna McKillop

Been working on my line recently trying to piece some things together to get past one of my ancestors, Anna McCullough/McKillip.

Anna, who I use the last name as McCullough due to my initial research 20 years ago. Their son, Charles Beatty, is my GG-grandfather and his marriage listed his mom as Anna McCullough. Other records for marriages, obituaries, deaths and pension files have listed her name as Anna McCullop, Ann McCulongh, Mary McClulepp, Anne McKillips and Anna McKellips.

In a son's pension file there is an affidavit that says a Uriah Tucker of Lucas County, Ohio "was present and saw the John Beatty married to Miss Anna McKilleps (McKilless?) at Fort Covington, Franklin County in the State of New York on the 22 of March 1833." There was also a Thomas McKillips of Sandusky County, Ohio where John and Anna both died who says he knows that she died on 15 January 1854 of ??? fever.

I looked into Uriah Tucker today trying to find out how he would happen to have been at the marriage in New York and be in Toledo, Ohio. Familysearch.org has a death record for Uriah which states he was born in Ft Covington, NY in 1811 and died in Toledo in 1894. Another record also mentions him born in Canada in 1811. Ft Covington, NY is right on the Canadian border. I am not too worried about his place of birth but one thing that is interesting to me is his son, Eli Tucker.

Eli Tucker was born in 1840 in Venice, Ohio where my GG-grandfather was born in 1842. Eli's death certificate in 1924 lists his father, Uriah Tucker, born in NY and his mother a Sarah McCallup, born in NY.

I am hoping someone might recognize a name or the location of Fort Covington in their research. I do not know for sure what Anna's correct full name would be but with the current research I think it might be McKillip.

Would anyone like to run some comments, suggestions and stuff to me. Thanks.
Hi Sam

We are in Sandhurst, Berkshire.

We probably have not been to Bristol for 3 years, but have been many times researching the Charleton side as they were in Bristol in 1700-1840's.

There is also someone that you cannot find on the Census, rather inconvenient.

Glad to hear you have written a book about your Father, very interesting. Unfortunately our parents have all since long gone. Although I have been researching since 1985.

We have put together a book on all the family we have researched on my husband's mother's side and have spent the last 18 months on it. Many years ago we did my Husband's side of the family and I did make a start on my side, but never printed, so that is my next project.

Problem is I keep going back to the Hall's in the hope we can find any relations still alive!

Keep in touch
Heather

Hi Sam

Yes I found the 1841 Census and reckoned I had the family.

I noticed in 1861 is said Thomas was married but wonder if it was incorrect on the Census. He was not married until 186 and indeed we have a copy of his marriage Certificate
he said he was a bachelor and his father was John Hall.

John's occupation was a clerk and Thomas was an Engineer.

I don't mind paying out for a Months Subscription plus my 2 free weeks, but we are off on Sunday to Bristol for a few days. I normally have a month's subscription at this time of year anyway. I may do it when we return from Bristol then I can ask to see your tree. But thanks anyway.

Heather

Heather

In 1841 Thomas, at the age of 12, was living with his parents, John and Jane at Mason Street in Salford along with 4 siblings (Hannah 11, Matthew 8, William 4, and John 1).

The family is still there in 1851 but Thomas isn't. His father is described as a store man in a machine shop. I cant find a record for Thomas in 1851.

I note his 1861 census record (Edward Street, Bristol) suggests he is married, four years before he married Martha Jane Fisher. Have you seen a copy of the marriage certificate or banns? I'm just wondering what thay may say about his marital staus and also his father.

I believe you can have two weeks free with no obligation on Ancestry if a member sends you an invitation. If you wish, I will send you one. I think it may require an email address.
Regards
Sam

Given that his earliest memories were probably of Manchester, then this mistake is understandable. On a couple of occassions (census) he claims he was from Northumberland. Again this is understandable as Alston and Garrigill are very, very, close to the border between Nothumberland and Cumberland. I cant explain why on one occassion he claimed to be Scottish.

His Marriage record is as follows:
Grooms Name: Thomas Robson Hall
Groom's birth date 1830
Grooms Age: 34
Grooms marital status: Single
Groom's father's name: John Hall
Brides Name: Martha Jane Fisher
Brides birth date: 1839
Brides Age: 25
Brides marital status: Single
Brides father: John Fisher
Marriage date: 30 Jul 1864
Marriage place: Bristol, Temple, Gloucestershire, England
digital folder number: 4247391
indexing project (batch) numberM39389-9
source film number: 1597126

I believe we are both of the view that Thomas Robson Hall born in 1867 was a product of this union.
It is impossible to be sure that this is the same person but have a look at the above and also my tree and tell me what you think.

Sam

Hi Heather
I have just added him to my tree.
My research suggests his father was also called Thomas Robson Hall, born in Garrigill in 1829 to John Hall and Jane Lee. John's parents were Joseph Hall and Ann Charlton who lived at Windy Hall near Garrigill (see my tree for pics of Windy Hall).
I note your surname. The Hall's used Ann's maiden name as as christian name. Do you have a connection or is this a coincidence?
Sam

Hi
Just found your post on ancestry. We could have a connection with Archibald Mckillop.
I am looking for the parents of Jane Mckillop, (b abt 1797 Leith Scotland) on her marriage in 1821 to Henry Richardson her father was David Mckillop, and on her death cert her father was Archibald Mckillop/ Jane Hay(or Hoy. Are you able to shed any light onto the real parentage of Jane(Jean)?
thanks
Keira

My great grandparents were also an Alexander McKillop (7/22/1858-9/21/1930) and Mary Ann (nee McHenry)(5/6/1860-2/20/1945). The Alex McKillop you found in the Ellis Island records cannot be my great grandfather, though maybe is yours(?) My great grandparents moved from Ballycastle to Chicago sometime between 1882-1886. Was your paternal grandmother's name Anne C. Herrin (b.1902, Chicago) or Winifred Coleman Belczak (b.1898, Chicago)? I have a list of children and their spouses and children (plus some dates) for Alexander and Mary Ann. My gram said there was an annabel, eliz, jemima, and james were the siblings but i found a norah, not an annabel. But she also said beatty was dutch; storyteller that she was. a lot of the beattys are buried on farmland in broadalbin-hagaman area.
Hello Amanda,
Percy and Catherine married on August 24, 1917 at 42 Margaret Street, Greenock. They were married, after banns had been called, according to the Forms or Rites of the Established Church of Scotland by the Rev John S McCallum. Witnesses to the marriage were Harold Beardmore and Isabella Campbell.

The marriage is recorded in the Marriage Register for year 1917 for the West District of Greenock in the County of Renfrew, Registration District (RD) number 564/2, Entry number 241.

This should give you all the information you require to order an official extract of the marriage Register entry from ScotlandsPeople. Let me know if you have any difficulty.

Regards

Donald Maclean.
