Hi,

Yes, things are a mess at the moment, and I have been MIA for over a year now. However, my situation is stable again and I can start to reassess and get things back in line, online and useful once more. Meanwhile, if there is something specifically I can help you with, please let me know as I can get you anything that was online directly from my computer/files and am happy to do so :)

Please use mckons@gmail.com to reach me and try the www.mckemie.org -> Records for some links. Some are dead, yes, as I started redoing the directory to be easier to manage from the admin end last year and then had to take some time off.... but again, anything there I have, so can send you directly. And the directory should be in order no later than the end of the year.

Thanks!
Jen

Go to Allice Cordelia McKemie's photos and locate two parts to a large reunion photo. Verdie Stewart gave me this photo and identified Allice Cordelia, Anna Myrtle Hill, Fairy LaVerne Hill and Dolly Susan Hill. We know the McKemies and Hills had reunions in southern Illinois. I wonder if this was at the old McKemie farm in Benton. Any help in identifying these folks would be wonderful!

Hi,
I am descended from Francis Pearson 1775 Burke Co NC. He married Elizabeth Dunn in 1800 in Oglethorpe GA. I have seen his name on along with Robert Pearson's on Miscellaneous Land Deeds in Burke Co NC in 1778-1779. I cannot find out what Francis' father's name was and I was hoping you might have some info that might help me to determine if Robert was a brother, cousin, father or what. I have run into a brick wall on this project. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
pattycmoore

The Samuel Mc Amy's in Greene Co., TN are not the fathers of William Wesley McKemie of Franklin Co., IL. I had the wills of both Samuels in my piles of research and read them carefully. By the way, though the census spells it Mc Amy, the wills spell it McKamey. I will post all children from these wills shortly. I am halfway through the 1830 census' of Tennessee and will post results of these shortly as well. I started my family tree under Burrell that shows my McKemie line. I will be downloading photos and documents there as well.

Samuel Littleberry McAmy

I started my search again today for the elusive Samuel L. McAmy. As we all know Samuel was in the 1840 census in Franklin Co., IL, but was not there in 1830. We do know that he came from Tennessee and that William Wesley was born in Tennessee in 1826 and John R. was born in Tennessee in 1832. We know Samuel was born in 1789. I decided today that I was going to search every county in Tennessee until I found him. I found that wonderful site that has the census maps by year and opened the 1830 map. There are a good 100 counties. I decided that I would start with the east side since Blount and Greene were there and I had heard of McKemie's coming from those counties. I started with Greene and I think I already found him. I'm going to still go through every county to be sure, but the ages and dates match exactly. The first thing that jumped out at me was the spelling. In the 1840 census in IL he spells it McAmy. There are two McAmy's in Greene Co. Samuel McAmy with only 2 people in the house. One male 60-70 and a female who is 70-80. Then there is Samuel McAmy on the same page who I think is the match. He is 30-40 (If born in 1789 he would be 40-he would only be 41 if it was December) In 1840 he would be 50 which matches our Samuel in IL. There is a female 30-40 which matches our 50 year old female in IL. There is a male child 0-5. Wm Wesley was born in 1826 which would make him 4 in 1830. There are 2 females under 5 and 1 female 5-10 which matches the 1840 census 10 years later. I'm going to search marriage and birth records in Greene Co. to see if I can make the connection. I'll keep you posted! I've been looking for him for 15 years!! If the elderly couple are his parents that would be awesome!

Hello! It's been about 10 years since I stopped my search for Samuel Littleberry McKemie. I saw your post here (never did do the computer searching when I was bit by the bug). You must be my cousin because I am the daughter of Samuel Burrell, son of Anna Myrtle Hill, daughter of Alice Cordelia McKemie, daughter of William Wesley McKemie, son of Samuel Littleberry McKemie. Samuel has been a mystery to me and we have physically gone east looking for him. He's a mystery! I've got the bug back and am hoping there is more info out there.

Terrie

Hi Kathryn,

I think I have a litle piece of the puzzle. Maybe we can help each other.

I have a distant cousin Willie "Pearl" McKamey.

Her parents were Emeline Latture (b. 1845) and James Howell McKamey (m. 11-30-1881).

I have an old photo of 4 people. The names and the date are hand-written on the back:
1901
Mrs. Robert McKamey
William Hodges
Pearl McKamey
Edna Hodges

All of this branch of my family lives in Sullivan County TN which is where New Bethel Cemetery is located. I had located the same grave you did many years back.

I suspect that the Mrs Robert McKamey in this photo is Mary Catherine (Hodges) McKamey and that the William and Edna Hodges in the photo are her parents. I suspect Pearl McKamey is included in the photo because her father James Howel McKamey is related to Robert McKamey in some way - perhaps a brother?

I'm not sure I've got the puzzle quite fitted together right though. The Mrs Robert McKamey in the photo looks too young to my eyes to be 62 yrs old (cemetery stone says b. 1839 and photo date says 1901). The 1901 photo date is about right though since Pearl McKamey looks no older than 20 and would probably have been born in the 1880's as the 2nd child after her parents 1881 marriage.

I have not been able to find one iota of other info on the people in the photo or Robert and James McKamey.

Maybe you've come up with more info since your 2000 post?

In any case I have a photo showing a Robert McKamey - Hodge connection in Sullivan County, Tn.

What do you think?

Janet

Hi Jennifer McKemie and other McKaimy Researchers:
I am a descendant of (John?) Francis McKaimy (15 Aug 1758 Orange County, NC - 4 Mar 1833 Bedford County, TN) and Catherine Galbreath/Gilbreath/etc. (1760 PA - 1837 Bedford County, TN. My line is through their daughter Cynthia E. McKaimy (14 Oct 1794 Orange County, NC - 22 Feb 1880 Bedford County, TN) who married James B. Dixon.

Francis McKaimy was a Revolutionary War soldier. After all these years of doing genealogical research, I have decided to apply for membership in the DAR under his service. According to the DAR, no one has made application for membership with his service.

So, begins my quest. While I meticulously document my sources, I am now on the quest to locate as many original (or copies of original) documents as I can.

Any help you (or others to this board) can give me would be most appreciated. Regardless, if my resulting research is of any interest to any of you, I would be happy to share it with you.

Folks can contact me (Lucy D.
McKemie DNA testing project

I'm Bill Morrow, Co-Administrator of the Morrow DNA testing project. I have been encouraging Jen McKemie to start a DNA testing project for the McK/McC lines. All variations of the spelling could join and be tested under one project. You get cheaper prices that way, and such testing could prove or disprove who is kin to whom.
How am I connected to the McK/McC One Name Study Group? My wife descends from Judge William McKamey 1760-1840 Anderson Co Tn > Robert McKamey 1799-1870 m. Jemima Parks > Elizabeth McKamey 1825-1870 Wood Co Texas, m. Wilson C. Robbins.

If the McK/McC group does start a DNA testing project, I need to find a living male with the surname McKamey (or variation) who descended from Judge William McKamey, to encourage him to join the project.
The way DNA testing works, is that the DNA of the Y chromosome is passed from father to son(s) virtually unchanged over the eons. So it follows when two living males with the same surname (or variation) match YDNA, they share a common ancestor somewhere back in time. The name of the ancestor is not known, but it can be predicted how far back he lived (200 or more years). That way the two or more lines who match can compare research notes and zero in on their common ancestor.
So the DNA project would mainly be interested in finding living males who had the McKemie, McKamey, etc.. surname
for the DNA samples. Any interested researcher/descendant could sponsor the male donor, the DNA company needs an email address to be able to email each donor.
It's a no-brainer for the group to nominate Jen to be Administrator of the McK/McC DNA testing project. Her One Name Study and other websites could easily be used to include progress reports on the DNA project.
Here's the URL of the DNA company used by the Morrow project. I highly recommend this company.
http://www.familytreedna.com
go there and learn more about DNA testing.
Any questions, feel free to email me.
......Bill Mororw
Sandy was one of my best friends when I lived in Austin, Texas between 1972 and 1975. Her father is/was Colonel McKemie and they lived up "in the hills" of Austin. She is the twin of Andrew McKemie, who went to Texas A&M during those years. If anyone knows how to contact Sandy, I would really love it if you would tell her I'm looking for her and forward my email addy to her. Should you need my snail mail, etc., please email me off list/board. Many thanks!

I was small (I'm the youngest of Kermits sons) when my dad took us to visit the farm in Benton, Il. My oldest brother Patrick has a son named Thomas also. I take it that name is after Shadricks father Thomas McKemie? Take care Dan McKemie

Hello
I read a post recently that Kermit, your father, I think posted and it was very helpful to me, I am a Mckemie in Illinois (paulanewcomb@verizon.net) maiden name; McKemie
John R. brother to WW and Jesse was my ggggrandfather. the firstMcKemie to come ot this county was Samuel Littlebury McKemie (spelled McAmy by the census takers)
Do you have any family history such as Kermit posted?? like Serena, who may have been Cherokee, marrying, ?? I have found Serena listed in a separate household and younger, (much) than Samuel, if the census is correct. I am searching for Samuel ancestors, and Serena's last name. He is also alleged to have had a wife named Ellen.
The McKemie's here were farmers, owned a lot of land, but as far as I know, my brother is the only McKemie in the phone book now in this county. Samuel was born in Tennessee in 1789. hope to hear from you.

I am trying to find information about Joseph LaTuille who was reported to be born in Troy, Pike Co, Al, died in Birmingham around 1948-49, may have been buried in Troy also. He had a sister Nell, but I do not know her married name or if she married. Joseph was married to my great-aunt for about 2 years or less, had a stroke, and live a year or less. I would appreciate any help that you can give. Pat Cassity

I have been researching McElroys who I believe were in Waxhaw Settlement late 1700's/early 1800's and moved eventually to Rutherford County TN (by 1820 census)
My Adam Calhoun McElroy was born 1779, son of Violet Calhoun/James McElroy (Prince Edward County VA and then to NC where Adam was born). Adam returned to Prince Edward Co. VA by 1804 when he married Jane Cunningham there. After serving in War of 1812, the family moved to Rutherford County TN.

There was also a Samuel McElroy (wife Martha) in early Rutherford Co. Samuel died before the 1850 census, but his widow and family were enumerated in Rutherford and son Andrew M McElroy was executor of the estate. Birth places listed for the widow Martha and the older children was SC or NC.
Andrew and his brother Samuel were in Rutherford and Bedford Co. census records - Andrew always used the middle initial "M" and in the 1880 census, he is listed as McCamey McIlroy... which makes me wonder if his mother wasn't a McCamey? Possibly from Waxhaw Settlement where John/Martha McElroy settled in 1770's - and where I believe my James McElroy/Violet Calhoun were living for 1790 census....

It is a pretty big stretch - but possible... So, any Andrew McCamey/McKemie having children in 1780's when Martha was born??

LaVerne

Dear Suzanne:

I am very intrestd in your reply of 7/6/2003 and apolojize for this late response. I do not have access to the work by Miss Myrna Boggs, and therefore wonder if I could impose upon you to see if there could be data therein indicating a connection to my line, which by my GrGrGrandmothers Bible and FC's I have determined:

My GrGrGrandfather was William Boggs, he had a brother Benjamine. These two had childred baptized in the Egypt Reformed Church, the data from that point is solid.

Their father COULD be the William Boggs listed in the 1800 FC of Allen(town), Northampton Co. Pa., due to this family consisting of two males under ten yrs. and the fact these boys had families in that area.

Benjamine was born 1/1/1790, in New Jersey, per his decendants.
William was born 8/9/1794, Philadelphia per the Bible.
There was a sister under 10, the Father under 45 and Mother under 26.

If you could shed any light on this, I would be so greatfull. I have been stuck at this point for twenty five years.

Thank you for any help you can give.

In family love, Dick
Jane, the kinship is on the female side. Her sister is listed as Mrs. J.F. Mckemie and I saw that name listed on your earlier post. Sorry to say that my parents did not keep the whole sheet of the newspaper, but 1958 is printed on one of the ads. Survivors listed are sister, Mrs. JF McKemie, and two nieces, Miss Margie McKemie and Mrs. Nell Burgess, three great nieces, Margie Nell, Ann and Kathy Burgess and two great nephews Bubber Burgess and Joe Mullins LaTuille, of Miami FL. She was the widow of TN Blake. She was 60 years old and says she lived in Birmingham for 40 years. For some reason I think she was orginally from South Al, seems I saw something else recently that said that.
Just let me know.
Pam
