Anna Emmert McKee, b.1881, wife of Renwick McKee, Marshall Co., KS

I have an original carte de visite photograph of “Anna Emmert McKee”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Concordia (Cloud Co.) KS in about 1882, and she looks about six months old.

In 1900 census, Marshall Co., KS, Anna M. is listed with birthdate Nov 1882, daughter of George S. and Laura Emmert. I found information on Anna Margaret Emmert in Ancestry Public Member Tree, showing birth 14 Nov 1881, daughter of George S. Emmert and Laura M. Meacham. She married Renwick McKee on 20 Feb 1907 in Marshall Co., KS. Anna lived 1910-1940 in Blue Rapids, Marshall Co., KA and died in 1959 in McPherson Co., KS.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Anna Emmert McKee.

Sgt. Samuel McKee, my 4th grandfather, and his bro., Capt. Robt. McKee, died in 1780 and 1830 and are buried in a cemetery north of Greensburg in Hempfield Twp., Westmorland Co. A Civil War tribute was paid to them in about 1929,on Memor. Day. Has anyone noticed these graves or seen this article in the local paper? I live in Kansas and don't know the area, but both of them raised families there.

Joseph, I have recently found the death certificate for Alexander Lowry on the Family Search website giving Alexander's death date as 18 Aug 1910. Joseph's son, Paul Lowry, was the informant. In it he names Alexander Lowry's father as Robert LOWRY, born in Belfast, Ireland and Alexander Lowry's mother as Mary Jane GIBSON, b. in Scotland. I don't know if this will be any help to you or not. Nancy Smith

Morgan County Alabama McKees

John T. McKee and wife Mary Pauline Atchley McKee are in Morgan County Alabama in 1850, as is Carroll McKee. Carroll McKee is next door to Joseph Calvert who married Margaret McKee in 1848. Carroll is supposed to be a son of John and Mary, and they are often recorded as having a daughter Margaret born about 1840, which is too young to be Joseph Calvert's wife Margaret, but Margaret doesn't show up on the 1850 census or the 1860 census with her parents. Where did the names of John and Mary's children come from? If they definitely have a daughter Margaret but of unknown birth year, then I'm certain it's the Margaret that married Joseph Calvert.

The 1920 Census says that my Michael likewise immigrated in 1849. I don't have Michael's immigration records (yet!) but will keep an eye peeled for any documents that may include the names you've provided. If I find anything, I will be sure to let you know. Thanks for your assistance.

Joseph, Thank you for responding to my query. I double checked my research and cannot decide either way for sure on a relationship between my Alexander Lowry and your Michael. Alexander says in one census that he immigrated in 1849. The only possible Alexander about the right age that I found was in Butler Co, PA in 1850 with a mother Mary Jane and a 3 year old brother James, also listed as being born in IRE. I couldn't find any of these 3 on immigration lists although there were a couple of close misses. I couldn't find Mary Jane, Alexander or James Lowry in the 1860 census. Alexander married in 1862 in Columbiana Co. Alexander said in later censuses that both his parents were born in Scotland. I didn't find his death record, so can't verify possible parents. A tree on ancestry has a birth date in Belfast, Ireland for Alexander and a death date of 1910 in Columbiana OH, but this tree has no sources and I don't believe some of the other info they have posted on Alexander's father and a second wife at the same time as the first wife with an additional set of children, so I just don't know.
Nancy Smith

My ancestor Michael Lowry (182* - 1929) lived in Huntingdon, PA in the 1860's and then moved to Columbiana County from the 1870's until his death. He was married to Bridget Conley (1825 – 1904). Their children include Bridget Lowry (1847 – ?), Mary Lee Lowry (1854 – ?), Edward Lowry (1855 – ?), Anna E Lowry (1858 – 1904), Margaret Lowry (1861 – ?), Michael J Lowry (1868 – 1949). Is their possibly any relation the relatives you are seeking?

OK. Long Story.

The Bessie Hammond that I have found was not around Port Hope and was Married to a William McKee and had a son William McKee that was born in Ireland.

"My William" that was born in Port Hope in 1832 ended up going up to Peterborough and marrying a Mary McMahon in '53. He, William, listed as a Blacksmith in the '61 census in Peterborough.

They had three sons: William, John and Thomas. There were born in '54, '56 an '61. This was in the '61 census.

At the same time, '61, there was another William McKee in Port Hope that was a Blacksmith.

So your William (J. b1857) could be the son William of My William. By the way, my relation comes through Thomas, the last son. In addition, in case it turns out to be, Mary the Mother died in '71 and I found her in a family plot with Thomas.

More of a long story, but if you look at the census in '61 you see that William senior, John and William jr are all listed as Methodist and Mary and Thomas are listed as Catholic. They are living with Mary's family.

She, Mary, dies in '71 and Thomas is raised by her sister, Bridgett. William senior, I think dies in '75 as there was a notice for a William McKee's death in Lindsay in 1875.

I have not found conclusive records for John and William jr. so maybe we are connected through this William. But your William could be the son of the other William McKee, Blacksmith, that stayed in Port Hope.

More info than you asked for, but let me know if it jarrs anything or if it helps.

David

We are looking at same G G Grandfather. I have his father as William and his mother as Elizabeth "Bessie" Hammond, coming Canada from Drumhome, Donegal, Ireland. (very close to Northern Ireland) This William is listed in census as a blacksmith in Port Hope. My G Grandfather was his son, William J. McKee (b. 1857) who immigrated to Detroit, MI and married Elizabeth Pannell. I would be interested to know how we are connected. I have found nothing in the Book of McKee for these names.

I am descended from James and Jane McKee. He came to America and settled in Manhattan in 1869. I "think" his wife's maiden name was Sheilds, but am unable to prove it entirely. It could have been Dunlop, but again, no way to prove or disprove any of it.They had children named Joseph Aloysius, William (may have been his middle name), I think Alice, Sarah, Anne and Theresa, but again, not sure...trying to recall this from memory. Do know who and when Joseph married, when they both died etc. Know who all their children were etc. My grandfather apparently panicked when he gave info for his dad's death cert. as it asked him what his mother's maiden name was, meaning Josephs, not grandpa's. Instead he gave Joseph's wife's name. James's wife's name was not listed on the death cert. I have for him.

James died in 1876, and cannot find Jane's date of death so far. Have no clue who James's parents were. If you have any info in the Book of McKee, sure would appreciate some help. OH, I "think" James "may" have been from Ballinderry Ireland (not sure of the spelling). Thanks.

ouizee

I have been trying to find his parentage for 3 years. If you could shed some light on my quest, it would be deeply appreciated. Most of the McKee's in PA seem to use the same first names and that makes it hard. There is also a family legend of Indian blood.

I have been searching forever, too, for parents of Samuel McKee, wife Margaret, who lived in Westmorland Co., Hempfield Twp, Pa. and died there about ae 45 with 6 minor kids. There is definitely an Alexander McKee there in the late half of 1700's.
He is, I think, a cousin of the McKeesport bunch, all used the same first names, and had a David.
We have no Charles, tho. I believe Samuels father was a Robert, bro of David. I think they came from Ireland. Have you ever checked ship lists from there in the 1700's? Sams bro was a neighbor and Robert. Sam's son, Samuel, also stayed in Westmorland all his life. His James and wife, Margaret Pierce, went to Ill. Don't suppose I could be lucky enough that any of this sounds familiar. Thanks, Donna in Kans.

1880 census for LIC Queens, NY

Someone had sent me info for the 1880 census for my Jane McKee, 47, widowed, living with her sons William, 22, and Joseph A. 19 (he was a switchman for the L.I.R.R., and William was a conductor but don't know which train company). She also had several daughters living with her. According to this record they lived on Eighth Street in L.I.C., possibly 178 or 138 Eighth St. Also at 117 Eighth street was Felix McKee and his wife Mary. I suspect he was another of Jane's son's but have no proof.

Meantime, someone else sent me a copy of the 1880 census showing the same exact info for Jane and children living on 32nd Street in Manhattan! I do know that by 1900 or 1910, Joseph WAS living on Eighth Street with his family. I'm so confused now I can't figure out what has happened.

I do know the one record sent to me was associated with the Mr. Sid Geoviewer, and was very hard to read. I could very easily have misread the info for Eighth St. Since she was counted on 32nd St. that year, I don't see how she could have also lived on Eighth (that was how it was spelled on the form--not 8th). If anyone could help clear this up for me I sure would appreciate it! Thanks.
ouizee

I am searching for the parents of John McKee. He was married to Mary Gibson. They had a son William H. Mckee born 1842, who married Mary Fleck. All lived in Blair County, Pa. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I am wanting to find someone to look up my McKee's in the book of McKee's. Can you direct me to someone that can help me.
Thank you,
Marjorie Munroe
London, Ontario, Canada
maplenation@sympatico.ca

I am researching my McKee/McGowan/Agnew/Mullin family history.
My Mother's parents were both born in Northern Ireland. My Grandma Molly (Mary Elizabeth Mullan or Mullin or Mullen) was born in Belfast about 1908 and my Grandpa William (Bill) James McKee was born in 1896 in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. My Grandpa and Grandma McKee were both long gone before I was born.
They both moved to Windsor, Ontario, Canada at different times and married in Detroit, Michigan, USA, but lived in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

I know that my Grandpa's father was James William McKee born October 30, 1862 in Bangor and died May 23, 1919.
James' married Jane McGowan McKee at St. Anne Cathedral in Belfast, NI.
Jane was born Oct 25, 1866 in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland and died on July 4, 1934. Her parents were Hugh McGowan & Mary Agnew McGowan.
James and Jane had four boys, My Grandpa William James (Bill), John Wesley (Wesley), and twins Marshall & George. My Grandpa and Wesley's family all lived in Canada, but the twins stayed in Bangor, and their offspring mainly still live there now. I have found them and visited them in 2004, but they know nothing of the history.

The above James William McKee's parents were:
John McKee
Born to: William McKee & Agnes McKee
Born: 1835?
Birthplace: Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland
Died: July 24, 1920
Died in: Te Puke, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand
Married to: Sarah McKee (Father was John McKee)
Born: 1833
Birthplace: Demense area of Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland
Died: July 14, 1870 at the age of 37 years
Died in: Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland
Parents Of: John, James, Agnes, Margaret More?????????
(William John was called just John, Dec 21,1857, married a woman named Ethel and moved to Pennsylvania, we have a letter he wrote to his brother James from the USA

Hi Shannon, I am very thankful to your father for his tireless work with the Book of McKees. I am so sorry about his death.
My doctor, Oliver McKee told me about the book before I went on a trip to Ireland. I went to the National Library in Dublin and looked up my ancestors. They are 3 brothers, Alexander, John and (?) who immigrated from Ballygowan, County Down, Ireland. Their ancestors came from Scotland during colonization of Northern Ireland encouraged by the Queen of England. John is my great grandfather. His last child was born in the USA and is my grandfather Samuel George McKee. Samuels only child was Gerald Passmore McKee of Bradford Co., Pa. and he was my father. My Father's first wife was Louise(?) and they had a daughter named Patricia Joyce b. 2-6-1927. She would be my half sister and I have never met her. My father never communicated with his former wife or even his daughter after the divorce. They may have moved to another state. It would be so lovely to find out more about her and my father. If you can help me at all I would deeply appreciate it. Regards,
Susan Jean McKee Irwin
