John McKee Sharpe of Statesville, Iredell Co, NC wrote that his Sharpe and McKee ancestors were living in Mecklenburg Co NC before moving to Iredell Co NC. He writes that he is of the same family as Jemima Alexander Sharpe and that his ancestors came by way of this church (Sugar Creek) and settlement.
He says:
quote: "The ancestors of our family also came by the way of this church and settlement. The Sharpe's also intermarried with the Wallis family buried here. The MCKEE's were buried here also, who intermarried with the McKnight, as they became known, and hence this family of Sharpe's came like ours from the old Rock Church, Cecil County, MD where they donated a graveyard, and were elders of the church from about 1718. My mother was a MCKEE. They were all covenenters from Ireland, both families taking part in the defence of Londonderry, and emigrating immediately after." end of quote
