I looking for a McKee family in Indiana. The 1880 census has my great grandmother Martha McKee widowed in Joplin, Missouri with seven children-ages 3-20. All the children's father is listed as coming from Indiana. I believe his name was James and it may have been James Monroe McKee..
I do not know Martha's maiden name but she apparently was born in Tennessee with her parents both being born in Virginia. Martha was 40 at the time of the census. I have focused on Monroe as being a likely place that my great great grandfather may have come from, since that is a county in Indiana and has been a family name used by my grandfather and my mother's brother. On the otherhand it may have used because of the popularity of President Monroe. Any thoughts that you have on this line would be appreciated-thanks! Don Smith
