I share the McGovern family, along with mmpanajia. Supposedly, my gg grandfather was Peter McGovern (his name is listed in some vital records as Peter and others as Patrick, so he could've been Peter Patrick McGovern), he was born abt. 1823 in Ireland (exact place is unknown), and married Mary Ann Shannon 6 Jan 1840 in St. John, New Brunswick. Mary Ann Shannon was born 1826 in Swanlinbar, Cavan, Ireland (this info from mmpanajia, I haven't found any documentation to back it up yet) They had the following children (which I have been able to verify thru documentation):
John b. 1842, NB Canada, m. Mary Galligher, children were James Leo, b. 1872, and Peter L., b. 1880 or 1881
Hugh b. 1843, NB Canada, m. unknown
Mary Ann b. 1849, NB Canada, first m. Unkown Forrest, child William L. Forrest, b. 1872, NB Canada
Susanah b. 1856, NB Canada, m. Maurice Mullen, child Rose, born 1895, born Massachusetts
James b. 1860, NB Canada, unknown if he married
Thomas Peter b. 1864, NB Canada, m. Isabella A. Burke, children were Thomas Charles b. 1900, and Elizabeth M. b. 1901 or 1902, both children b. Boston, MA
Margaret b. 1867, NB Canada, m. Lawrence McCarthy in Boston, MA
I don't have Peter McGovern's date of death, but I have a inkling that he was the Peter McGovern that died in the "Great New Brunswick Fire" in June of 1877, but can't verify it.
In 1880 the entire family immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Boston, MA.
One last thought, Peter McGovern may have immigrated to Canada along with other family members between 1830 & 1840 (it seems the irish moved in packs), their names could've been, John, Thomas, Mary and Margaret. If any of this info sounds familiar to you or anyone that reads this message I would sure like to hear from you.
