To all searching for the elusive "J" McLaughlin/McGlothlin, father of John, Jacob and Stephen.
I know that there is a general consensus that "J" McLaughlin/McGlothlin was the father of our common ancestors, John, Jacob and Stephen. What I failed to catch is the clue that has led us to this search. Was it work done by Don McGlothlin of Grundy, VA? This is not a challenge or anything; I am just looking for him also and need all the help I can get.
We all seem to believe they (John, Jacob & Stephen) were born in South Carolina in the vicinity of the Edisto River and they moved to North Carolina some time prior to the Revolutionary War. It seems this is the point at which the "brick wall" stares us in the face.
Some time ago I went to the South Carolina archives in Columbia in search of possible clues to the origins of our McLaughlin/McGlothlin brothers. I went through the SC COM index. I don't know exactly what it is but is some type of index to very early South Carolina records. There were about 60 records for men whose surname "sounded" like McLaughlin/McGlothlin. I thought I might pass this information along on the "J" guys. Might be of help to someone. Please share any clues you have with me as to the parentage of the McLaughlin/McGlothlin brothers. Spelling of all material as best I could ascertain.

Thanks,
