CHILLICOTHE: Richard Earl McCutcheon, 86, passed peacefully from his earthly life, after a brief illness on April 20, 2013 at 3:15 p.m.
He passed surrounded at home by his three daughters.
Richard "Dick" was born August 18, 1926, in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, to the late Ray and Elvie McCutcheon.
He married his beloved Lucille on June 4, 1949 and they had three daughters, Nancy (David) Rose, Betsy (Tim) Cartwright, both of Chillicothe, Ohio and Carol (Katie Tomlinson) McCutcheon from Ashland, Oregon.
Dick had four grandchildren he adored and doted upon. They are Matt Johnson, Krista Rose, Scott Johnson, and Heather Rose.
He grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1944.
He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II.
After his enlistment, he went to the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a degree in business.
He was a credit Manager at the Wear Ever Aluminum Co. in New Kensington, PA until he was transferred to Chillicothe, Ohio with the Wear Ever Company in 1967.
After moving to Chillicothe, he and Lucille joined Trinity United Methodist Church where they have been active members for 45 years.
Dick was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, and a volunteer at the Veterans Golf Course.
His hobbies and interests included golf, bridge and other card games, sports, particularly following the Ohio State Buckeyes in football and basketball.
He enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. But more important than all of these activities were family, friends. He and Lucille had many wonderful friendships with people in the Chillicothe community.
One group of friends referred to themselves as the Farkles and another group wintered with them in Florida for over 25 years.
They also traveled extensively throughout the US. To Hawaii, Alaska and all places in between.
Richard is survived by his daughters and their significant others, a special son-in-law, David and his four grandchildren all of Columbus, his two sisters, June Lombard, of Bradenton, Florida and Catherine Swenk, of San Diego, CA.
He also is survived by his brother-in-law, Tom Mangus, of Tonawanda, NY and numerous close nieces and nephews who affectionately called him Uncle Hutch.
He is also survived by several cousins from Pennsylvania.
Those that have predeceased Dick are his wife, Lucille, and wife's siblings and their spouses from PA and his parents and his parent's in-laws and his sisters' husbands and several nieces.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Wednesday, April 24th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the WARE FUNERAL HOME 121 West Second Street Chillicothe, Ohio.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 25th at 11 a.m. at Ware's.
Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe, Ohio where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard.
Pastor Kurt King from Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate.
