Bridal shower for Mrs. Roy McCullah 1921 Fort Collins, CO

I am not related to this family..

Fort Collins Courier (Fort Collins, Larimer County)
June 30, 1921
Shower for Bride
A delightful affair was the shower given by the members of Miss Pearl Moore's Sunday school class for Mrs.Roy McCullah on Wednesday evening. The young ladies prepared a splendid supper and descended upon Mrs. McCullah at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Brunton, 117 North Whitcomb street, completely surprising her. Besides the supper they brought all sorts of gifts which they showered upon the bride. About eighteen ladies were included in the part and a very merry evening was spent.

Tom, My maiden name was McCully; I am from Pennsylvania. My uncle had his DNA tested for me. He is a very close match to a McCullah; out of 46 markers, only two are 1 digit off. Have you had your DNA tested that we could compare results to also?

If you would please email me directly at jillrobinson@hotmail.com
Thank you
Jill McCully Robinson

Re: McCullahs of KY/TN

I am looking for information on my original U.S. ancestor, James (?) Thomas McCuluck/McCullah/, who came from northern Ireland around 1780 and was in northeast Tennessee by 1788, when he is first listed in a land transaction in Washington Co. He came here as a young adult, as a cousin still has the adult-sized coat he wore over here from Ireland. He was last listed in a deed dated 1807, still in Washington County TN. Then he seems to disappear. I’ve looked for information on him in Hawkins and Greene counties, but no luck.

Only one son is known, Samuel David McCulloch, who his son said was Thomas’ “youngest son.” Samuel David McCulloch came down the Tennessee river to Lincoln County TN, where he is listed in the 1820 census, and then across the river to Lawrence County, Alabama, where he is in the 1830 census onward. We’ve been in north Alabama ever since.

I have never been able to find a solid connection with the better documented McCullochs of Blount County, which are related to the "Tinkling Spring" McCullochs.

My DNA shows a strong relationship with the Gillespies, who also were in NE Tennessee around 1800.

There are a few shadowy references to other James or Thomas McCullochs/McCulloughs/McCullahs in northeast Tennessee at the right time, but not much solid information.

Any and all leads would be appreciated! thanks, Tom McCulloch
I think that he and George were brothers, but have no proof. On the 1860 census of Whitley County Ky, he and George lived close. They were listed as McCulley

Thanks. I really think it must be an "R", and that he must be the James R McCullah I was looking for.

John McCullah (b 1831, d 1907 Kingston, Fresno Co, CA) and Margaret McCullah (b 1836, d 1910) are buried nex to each other in Kings River Cemetery, just across the river from Laton. According to "Gone But Not Forgotten - Pioneers of Kings County, CA" the name on the account is C.J. McCullah, which I'm pretty sure is Clement/Clementine Johnson McCullah, older brother of James. There is also a baby Albert buried there (d 1906) and the account name is James McCullah. It is a very small cemetery, recently restored, with a pioneer memorial.

It looks like C.J. was named for his grandfathers. Margaret's father was Johnson Woosley.

I have very little information, but here it is:

The father (name unknown) of Clement and Clinton McCullah (born in Tennesse in 1805, 1807 respectively) was born in North Carolina according to census information:

1880 census - Household:
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace
G.
Judy,
No I haven't run across your Samuel McCullah. I was able to trace Clement (b. abt 1805) and Clinton (b. abt 1807) McCullah back to the 1830 census for Hawkins Co., TN. The LDS site has a Joseph McCollough listed as the father for these two brothers. The two brothers first went to Jefferson Co., IL, then settled in Bond Co., ILL.

The 1830 census for Hawkins Co., TN has a Samuel McCollongs listed. I don't know if this is your Samuel or not.

I can tell you is that you have to be really creative with the spelling of this surname. I found it listed as McCully, McCulah, McCullah, McCollough.

Campbell Co., TN also has listings for McCullah's. Wish I could have been more help. I will keep you Samuel in mind as I search.
Sincerely,
Sandy

I just wanted to give you all a heads up on some McCullah Wasson family documents which are currently on E_b_ay. I can't include the link because RootsWeb automatically deletes any posts having to do with that website. If you go to the search window of "that site" and put "McCullah Wasson" in search window you will find collection. The collection consists of the following: "Family Genealogy History of the McCullah Wasson Family - 100th Reunion and other family history papers, newspaper clippings, and photogrpahs, etc. Includes an old hand drawn map of the McCullah Place. Also a family record from an old bible. All this material is from the JoBelle Burk estate, Springfield, MO" . It looks like something I would sure want if it were my family. By the way, I am not the Seller of these items. I merely came across them and, being a Board Administrator myself as well as a genealogist, I thought it would be a shame for family members to miss out on this collection.
B.W.

Hello, My geat great grandparents were Isom Hensley Jr. and Prudence Catherine McCullah Hensley. Isom Jr. passed away in the 1880's in Union County, Tn. Prudy McCullah Hensley was living with her daugher and son-in-law in 1900. Her daugher was Virginia Catherine Hensley Damewood. I could not find Prudy McCullah Hensley after that and assume she passed away between 1900 and 1910. Alot of my Bruner, Hensley relatives were from Hawkins County, TN. and Scott County, VA. I have suspected, that Robert and Malinda McCullah were Prudence Catherine Hensley's parents, but I have no proof of this, except for how close Robert and Malinda McCullah was to Isom and Prudy Hensley in one of the Scott County, VA. census records. Also, on the death record of Robert McCullah, in Scott County, VA. a Hensley gave the information of his death and that the Hensley was the head of the household. This might have shown some family relation. Also, I have another McCullah/McCullough relation in Hawkins County, TN. My great great great grand parents were John W. and Prudia Harriet McCullough Armstrong. They lived in Hawkins County, Tennessee, and I do not know who here parents were either. Anyone who would like to discuss these folks above, can email me at brunerwd@wmconnect.com

My Great grandmother had a brother named William G. McCullah born about 1841 AR or MO. Their father was Samuel H. McCullah. Samuel was married at least 2 times. He had two daughter by first wife Lucinda born 1829 (my g-grandmother) and Louisa born 1835. Then Samuel married Sarah "Sally" Alcorn in Randolph CO AR on July 23, 1840. Samuel and Sarah children were: William G born 1841, John born 1843, Parmila born 1845, Samuel W. born 1847, Joseph W. born 1849 and Benjamin born 1851. I have found Samuel with two land pattens in 1835 for Daveiss/Knox co IN and also in 1859 one for Oregon Co MO. Last time I found Samuel was on Oregon Co Jobe Township MO census for 1860. Hope this is your William G MuCullah. Any information on this McCullah family will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Judy
jnettles@bscn.com

Re: McCullahs in Bond Co., ILL

Thank you for your reply. This information was a help. I had lost Elvin after the 1910 census.

The 1880 census for Beaver Creek Township, Bond Co., Ill., has a listing for a J. (John) McCullah b. TN, wife M.(Margaret Woolsey) b. KY with a son J.A?.(original census image looks more like a B. or R.) McCullah b. abt 1871. Do you think this may me your James R. McCullah? John would be George T. McCullah's older brother. I also have a couple of other James McCullah's in my database.

"History of Bond & Montgomery Counties IL 1882" p.94 lists McCulley, Clinton and Clement, brothers.
Source: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilbond/

As far as I can tell it is these two brothers who are the progenitors of the Bond County McCullah's.

Feel free to mail me at sjhage@charter.net if you want to exchange information.
