I know you posted 10 years ago, and I hope all is well since then! My husband is a McCreath from Canada - the Kincardine, Ontario, McCreath family which is very near Goderich. They also immigrated from Scotland and I believe it was Ayr. We would be happy to compare notes and history!

I was just looking at new information on Ancestry and there is a census for 1851 for the County Cork. A name I had never seen before is on this list. it is McCraith, so I thought I would let people know it is available on ancrestry.

Hi-my connection isn't that close! I'm in Mackay and my link to your family is through Maria Scott (1871-1918). Her daughter Margaret Eileen Cowan (1904-1981) married Leonard Warfield Wesche (1903-1992). His first cousin- Heinrich Fredrich Schaper (1900-1970) married my great-grandmother- Adeline Wilhelmina Graffunder's (1856-1942) first cousin Eda Bertha Graffunder(1906-1987). Basically, I'm proving that everybody from Mackay is related!

My name is Fionnuala Scott and the pictures you have linked to on my tree are my grandfather Patrick from Roscommon and his brothers William, John, James and sisters Margaret, Mary, Ellen and Bridget. The girls ended up in Mackay. So if you are related to them you must be related to me. Second cousin maybe.

I am looking for info on John Joseph McCreath who married Ellen Mooney. Their son John Joseph was born in Dublin in 1851 and died in Australia in 1899. His wife was also a McCreath- Elizabeth- born in Dublin in 1853 and dying in Australia in 1925. Her parents were John McCreath and Eliza McCarthy. Sound familiar to anyone?

I am thryind to find information on my grandmother's paternal line and would appreciate any help you can give me. My great-grandmother was Helen Agnes Headley Charmers McCREATH, born 1895 Glasgow , to William Dill McCREATH and Elizabeth McCreadie (married 1884 Ayr) - the family moved to Australia when Helen was very young. William's parents were David McCreath ( I think) and Helen Hamilton Headley, married October 1852 Colmonell Ayr.

I have found different forms of spelling too.
If you are a McCreath, you come from the McRae clan and are of Scottish ancestry. I have not found any with the "s" in it. eg
MacRae, McRae, Macrae, McCrae,McCray, Macaree,McCrea, McCreagh, McCraith, and Mackereth. There is a McCreath one name society being formed by a Douglas McCreath in Scotland, and he might be able to assist if you have a few generations of your McCreashs and where they came from etc

I keep in touch with a Doug Mc Creath in Scotland, who is doing a world wide site. It is not an easy site to use. You can find it at www.newlands.demon.co.uk/mccreath and if you want to mail Doug with details of your Scottish ancestors he may be able to link you up. and his mail address is mccreath@ecosse.net also he has a lot of McC that he has not been able to slot into place. I have an old copy of his and my family three, which may be helpful.
I am descended from a Robert Mc Creath and a Maggie Jane Renton from Glasgow & who settled in Brisbane in the 1880s. Send me some details, who knows we may be cousins

hello again , i have been doing a bit of digging , alexander mccreath was born april 5th 1818 maybole , died new luce 30 march 1872, he was a farmer at muirclach farm, i have a copy of his death cert.jane mckie was born maybole 7 october 1821 and died muirclach 1897, i have a photo of her memorial stone in new luce churchard, they were my g g grandparents , their daughter jane was my g grandmother

scotlands people confirm the birth of alexander mccreath as being maybole ayrshire
on the 1841 census the family are in colmonell
the family consists of james and marion
alexander age 20
hugh age 15
mary age 10
james age 5
marion age 3 and margaret age 1
i don.t know when they moved to colmonell sorry

hello the information i have, james and marion married 8th june 1817, james parents were james mccreath and margaret hannah who were married 16th july 1791, marion bryces parents were alexander bryce and jane mccneilly
i am almost sure it was maybole alexander was born , he was married in colmonell, i will bouble check his birthplace

I am trying to find information on my grandmother's paternal line and would appreciate any help you can give. Well we have a common relative for sure in james and marion mccreath.I am guessing that maybole,new luce,and colmonell were all close too each other in distance.My marion mccreath,alexanders sister, married john service from colmonell,and his parents were james & rosanna (hay) Service.Maybole was of interest to me because I was trying to determine if Rosanna was born their.It's possible that she and james service came from ireland,or they were scots but went to ireland then returned.I did find a rosanna born in maybole but just not positive it is the right one.Have to find her marriage cert.I thankyou for your input as it seems to coincide with mine.Good luck in the future searches!
