I stumbled across this noticeboard by accident and was surprised and delighted to see Margaret McNamara’s reference to me, and my interest in McCreath family history

One the McCreath groups about which I have information is that of the family of William McCreath and Martha Stewart in Colmonell Parish, Ayrshire. To my knowledge they had at least four surviving children inc. Hugh McCreath (1811-1894).

Hugh died on 1 Nov 1894 at Carleton Fishery, Lendalfoot. His death was registerd by a William Murchie (his son-in-law) Could your Hugh McCreath Murchie be the son of William Murchie?

There is also a John McCreath born around 1883. The grandson of Hugh’s brother, William McCreath. Could this be your John?

Next time I am through at the GRO in Edinburgh, I’ll check it out. I am assuming you don’t live in Scotland!
