YOUNGSTOWN – Robert Charles “R.C.” McCrae Sr., 89, who departed this life Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, Ohio.
Mr. McCrae was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Rockingham, North Carolina, a son of Adam and Ada Jane Terry McCrae.
He was an engineer for U.S. Steel Corp. Ohio Works, retiring in 1977 after 35 years.
He was a member of the church, Trustee, president of the United Male Choir and president of the Mt. Gilead Male Choir. He was also a Masonic and a member of Buckeye Elks Lodge No. 73, and was a World War II Army veteran.
His former wife, Alice L. Robinson McCrae died Jan. 6, 2004.
He leaves his children, Linda McCrae of Boardman, Ohio, Judy Smith of Blacklick, Ohio, Patricia (John) Brown of Newark, Ohio, Robert C. (Pamela) McCrae Jr. of Youngstown, Harold McCrae of Atlanta, Charles E. (Clevette) McCrae of Lawrence, Ga., Gary (Melanie) of Cuthbert, Ga. and Nathaniel Royal of Youngstown, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Roseanne Tarver; and a brother, Wilbert McCrae.
A musical tribute will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday and friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at the church.
