Captain Virgil
McCracken was a resident of
Woodford County,
KY and died in the War of 1812 in
Michigan.
McCracken County,
KY was named in his honor when created in 1825. He was part of a large and important family of
McCrackens who were instrumental in settling the early Bluegrass area of
KY in the 1770s. At least two his
McCracken uncles were killed in Indian battles. The family is well documented, they say. Contact me off-line for additional info.
