In cleaning out the basement, I came across a small (about 2" x 2 1/2") leather photo case, which holds the tintype of a young man in formal dress (I'd say about 1860 or so, from his clothing). The tintype itself isn't identified, but the space behind it in the case contains locks of hair (two, probably from different people), as well as a piece of jewelry made from hair woven onto a wire frame. There's also a piece of paper, with the name John James McCracken, the phrase 8/10 Photo, and a letter J written on it in pencil. This isn't a member of my family, or (as far as I know) my wife's. I'd like to see it passed along to someone to whom it's significant; obviously, I won't give it away until I'm convinced that the person inquiring about it is a family member. I don't know how to establish that, but maybe something will come forth. For background, much of my wife's family came from Pennsylvania, but I don't know of any McCrackens

I have a relation who is John James McCracken but in Indiana, born 1832, died 1910, in Daviess County. Probably not him in Pennsylvania unless he sent the picture to a relative?

Time frame is certainly right. I have no way of knowing the source of the photo; it could as well have been Indiana. I'm pursuing one more possible avenue of info; I'll let you know if it pans out. This tintype (as well as the locks of hair with it) meant a lot to someone once. I really wish I knew more about it.
