Do you have info on the parents and/or siblings of your John C. McCracken? There was a John who served in the NC Continental Line and was awarded a land grant in TN. His grant application was sequentially numbered next to that of David McCracken (ca 1750). I am in David's line.
There were at least a couple of "different" McCracken families in Lincoln Co and in Giles Co TN by the early 1800's as well as at least one more McCracken family further East in TN. I have not identified the linkages among the families, if they exist. I suspect they do. (Our McCracken family often used the name "Oliver" as a given name for males, for instance.)
It's tough for me to imagine that John and David were not related, as both were in the Rev War in the same state in the same "Line"; both applied for grants at the same time in the same "office" and both got the grants and both ended up in TN. Yet, I have not connected them.
I would appreciate any additional details you may be willing to share on the McCracken and/or Wofford references that you mentioned.
Thanks for your time. My direct e-mail is cowen@ixpres.com if that is more convenient.
