Macool/McCool's from Ireland

Hi Michael,
Have you any dates for the brothers entry into the US? My husbands great great grandfather William came to the US about 1852, we have no idea about where they lived in Ireland or if there were other family members. We do know that his mother was Irish and his father was born in Scotland. Does this sound as if it could be the same Willie?

My great grandfather is William McCleland. His mother's name is Mary McCool. William was born in Belfast in 1871. I don't know when he came here to the states and I don't know if this means anything at all to you but I thought I would take a shot.

William

Hi Michael. I am searching for John McCool from Ireland. Probably from Letterkenny. He came to Canada to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway approximately 1910. His father's name was Patrick. Haven't heard anything about him being a stowaway and sent back, but a cousin has informed me that he was buried in Temple Douglas cemetery. Do you think this could be the same one? John was married to Annie Russell born 15 April 1878.

Michael,

There were three McCool brothers named Thomas, John and William who lived in Billerica, Massachusettes during the 1850 and 1860 Census.
William moved to Wisconsin, as did at least one of John's children (my gr-grandfather). I do not know where the rest ended up. I cannot find the others on the 1870 Census with any certainty. William was unmarried when he arrived, but John's oldest two children are listed as born in Ireland. John's wife was Jane Gilmore. Thomas' first four children were born in Ireland. His wife's name was Elizabeth.
I do not know where in Ireland they came from.
Hope this helps,
Kurt Cowling

Hello Michael,

I don't know if you can help me or not. I am trying to contact Jacquie Jarvis who replied to your message re: McCools from Donegal. Do you have any contact information for her? She was looking for John McCool, who was my great-grandfather.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Linda,
My mother was Jean (McClelland) Townsend, daughter of William McClelland and Bernadine Winier.
William McClelland's father was John McClelland and his mother was Mary McCool.

One of my mother's sisters was Grace (McClelland) (Dimond) Richardson.
Is Grace your grandmother?
Is Norma (McClelland) Dimond (one of Grace's children) your mother?
Are William, John and George Richardson your uncles?
Would love to hear from you.

Did you get a copy of the ship manifest? If so, would you please email me a copy of it. My grandmother is a McCool. Her lineage goes back to John and Olivia McCool in Northern Ireland. Thanks for the trouble. pamsy@koyote.com

My GGF Thomas Stewart McCool (1851-?), son of Thomas McCool (1821-1874) was born in County Londonderry and traveled to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, possibly in 1871. He moved to New York City in 1888. He was a carpenter. Don't know if this is your Thomas McCool or if this line is related to yours. I have not made any connections into Ireland yet. I see that Donegal is about 30 miles from Londonderry.

My name should be Jeff McCool but for a suspicious name change and relocation of my Grandfather, Ernest Stewart McCool (4/27/1879-c.1911), son of Thomas Stewart McCool, between 1902 and 1904.

I will be happy to share information.

I am tracing my McCool heritage which I have back to Ireland (Londonderry) through the name Thomas McCool (1821-1874), wife Jane, Son Thomas Stewart McCool (1851-?), wife Mary Jane Caswell (1852-1936) and their children (all from New York City) Thomas Herbert McCool (1882-1960), Ernest Stewart McCool (my grandfather, 1879-c.1911), William Percy McCool (1888-?), Ida May McCool (1875-1890) and Olive I. McCool (1885-?).

Thomas Stewart McCool traveled to Toronto, Ontario, Canada possibly in 1871 and then to New York City in 1888 or 1889.

By the way, my real last name should be McCool except for a suspicious name change (and relocation) by my Grandfather Ernest Stewart McCool to Herbert Edward Garfield between 1902 and 1904.

This is interesting information since my roots are the McCools from Ireland and my father's name was Herbert...only one named that in the family. As well, my brothers name is Thomas. Our family stems I believe from Donegal with the patriarch Michael McCool who married Maria Flanagan. Have not had much luck in finding anything else about the Ireland link..perhaps you have more info that might help. Our heritage is Canadian with the immigration of my great great grandfather Francis one of the sons of Michael and Maria. I have often wondered where the US link came from
