Hi there,

On behalf of a friend I am researching his family tree. I have taken his wife's family back to Robert Logan and Janet
Mc Clure. Their son William married Janet McCullock and it through this line that his wife Frances belongs.

I have had no success in finding a marriage for Robert and Janet on Scotland's People. Have you managed to establish anything about this family? Any assistance you can give will be great appreciated.

Kind regards

Chas Monk
PADBURY
WESTERN AUSTRALIA

I'm trying to help a friend with her family tree. Her father's name is Jesse James McClure. He was born 9 Oct 1911 in Kentucky. He died 14 June 1993 in Ohio. His mother's name was Frazie Stamper. He didn't have a father listed on his birth or death certificate. He had heard his father's name was Sam McClure. His mother was born in 1886. He heard his father was alot older then his mother and it was possible he was married when he was born. If anyone knows this family could you please share the information? Thank you.

Crystal

Mac
Sorry but none of these names are familiar. My McClures went to PA from NJ around 1800 and set roots around the Huntingdon county area of the state. After 1850 some moved on. Several brothers to Indiana, several stayed in Pa. Then in the late 1800's my grandfather and many of his siblings moved on to the Roanoke, VA area. Edward was one of my greath-grandfathers brothers. In our branch there are lots of James, Joseph, Andrew and Williams. Very hard to keep seperate due to generational name recycling.

Jim

Hello Rebecca. Can you tell me more about your line? Why do you think your husband descends back to James McClure? How far back can you go on the line? I have been researching this line for over 45 years and I have amassed a lot of information. I do not usually run into family members, so I am excited by your note.

Dennis McClure

Re: Nancy McClure married James David (born in 1780 in either NY or PA) > OH > ILL > WI

If you want to write me directly use ygeyoung@aol.com I always find these threaded message boards confusing. Since contacting you this morning I found more evidence that these Davids in Wisconsin probably were from Centre/Clinton counties in Pennsylvania. Isaac Finch David (b 1813, son of Daniel Jr and Mary Swallow David) later migrated to Iowa Co., WI, too.
You mention that James David had a possible son Carpenter. Could you tell me your source of that? Carpenter was a name in the Centre Co Pa Davids.
I think your James probably is the son of old Daniel David of Centre Co Pa who died in 1832. The parentage of this old Daniel David is not entirely clear in my opinion, but is probably John and Elizabeth (Wyngaart) David of Albany, NY. Some other postings about him, I question, as he is supposed to have had a connection to Goshen, Orange Co NY which is unclear to me.
I have been working on John and Elizabeth (Wyngaart) David and just started tracking their eldest son Daniel (b. 28 Aug 1748 in Albany) to verify that he is the same Daniel who migrated to Pennsylvania. I think John's son Daniel spent some years in Berkshire Co Massachusetts, so the birth of your James in Mass abt 1780 makes sense. Daniel and wife Hannah sold their Pittsfield Mass land in 1786.

At least I think you can safely accept Daniel David of Centre Co Pa as the father of James, but I would not immediately accept John and Elizabeth David as Daniel's parents until more evidence is developed.

I have helped a friend who is a McClure. There were many McClures in southern Ohio, but I suppose there were McClures everywhere. I'll keep an open eye.
Doesn't the 1850 census of Iowa Co Wi show James David as age 70, born MASSACHUSETTS. I have read their son Putnam was born in Centre Co Pa. Do you know if "Centre Co" is proven--perhaps from his death certificate, etc? If so, I think James David must be the son of Daniel David of that county who had a son named James, born by ca 1780. However, someone may just have assumed your James was born in Centre County after learning of the existence of Daniel's son. I do not know when Daniel's son left Centre County. They lived in the area that became Clinton Co., I think. Do you know WHERE James David married Nancy McClure?

Catherine (Gannon) McClure, b 1-22-1899 Philadelphia, PA

Catherine (Gannon) McClure, born 22 Jan 1899 to Irish (Co. Mayo) parents Austin Joseph Gannon and Catherine (Hannigan/Heneghan) Gannon, married to unknown McClure. They had a son, George Austin McClure, who died at age 4 of scarletina. He is buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Philadelphia. Looking for any other descendants of Catherine and UNK McClure husband and also her husband's first name. It isn't rising to the top when I plug her into Ancestry.com for 1920 or 1930 censuses.

Catherine died in August 1974. She lived in Levittown, PA at the time. She, too, is buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery but her husband is not there.

Hello, Elaine,

We have since discovered that our little George Austin McCLURE (b abt 1919, died Aug 1923) in the Gannon family plot in Holy Cross Cemetery near Philadelphia, PA was the young son of Catherine (Gannon) McCLURE (b Jan 1899, Philadelphia, PA. Catherine was the daughter of Austin Joseph (b abt 1868 Mayo Ireland) and Catherine (Heneghan/"Hannigan", b abt 1873, Co Mayo) GANNON.

Little George Austin McClure's father was GEORGE O. McCLURE, b abt 1895, but we have no other information on him yet. Do you know who your "George" and "Austin" were, and did they have any ties to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at any point? I'll dig a little deeper to see where our George O. McCLURE was born. We don't know that yet.

Re: Nancy McClure married James David (born in 1780 in either NY or PA) > OH > ILL > WI

Yes, James is in the 1850 census living with his son, James McClure David (I think the census says McDavid. The handwriting on the census record I saw was not clear so I wasn't sure - I can see where it could be MA. I know there are some geneaologists online who have more info on Putnam so I can try to track down the proof on that.
I have no idea where or when James and Nancy were married. I also do not know where Nancy died or was buried. I do know their son James McClure David was married in Illinois in 1849 before moving to Wisconsin. I did some checking in online records in Illinois for Nancy but didn't locate anything. I am pretty new to geneaology (a few years) so am still learning. I appreciate that you wrote - do you have connections to the McClures?

We have come into possession of a 1799 letter to William McClure and his children from Rev. Robt. Marshall, a trustee of Translyvania University in Kentucky. I deduce it was delivered by A Logan.
Martha Dennis
