I just started research on my SC McClains. My g-g-grandfather was July McClain who was in York County, SC during the 1870 census. His three sons, Goodson, Wiley and Joseph moved to Williamson County, TX. I have found the families with various spellings of the surname - McLean, McLane, McLin, etc.

There are many related families still in the area - Miller (also from York Co, SC), Hollingsworth, Smith, Norvell

I'm at a point where I'm looking for potential plantation connections in SC. Any guidance would be appreciated.
