Jessie McCambridge Bailey

I have a Jessie McCambridge born 1857 in plymouth, 'marrying' a John Wiliam Bailey. (they never actually married and were acts in circus's and theatres). Anyway I can trace them having 2 sons John William Bailey 1883 born cardiff, and Daniel Bailey born 1889 Dublin.

Randomly looking at the 1911 census - I have found a Jessie McCambridge Bailey born Colchester 1885. I have found her on the 1891 census living in Colchester as a border wsith no parents listed (which i guess would work with travelling the country for shows). But I cant find a birth for her. but have her on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census's - just trying to see if she could possibly be their daughter. Any ideas what to try next?

Lucy

Re: essie mccambridge

Essie (Esther) McCambridge White was born in New Castle, PA. Her birthdate listed is not clear. Some records indicate Aug 15, 1972 but her census record of 1900 states Oct 1873. I believe that there is another Essie from Pittsfield, MA with the first date. The Oct 1873 date was given by her or her husband to the 1900 census and matches the dates up with her obituary, so I am trusting that.

Her father was born in Scottland, her mother in Ireland (per 1900 census)

According to the New Castle News Esther White died March 11, 1902 at 10 am at age 28. She is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in New Castle, PA. The paper states she was well respected and had been sick for months with Phthsis (what we now call TB). It also stats she had a sister in Granite City. (New Castle News March 12, 1902)

She died at her residence at 701 Hamilton Street. They rented this home.

She was married to Albert White Sr.

Children:
1) Albert White Jr. It is stated he was born May 18 1987 and to have died Sept 19, 1900 but he is not listed as a resident in their home on the 1900 census and the birthdays of the two boys are conflicting.

2) John William White was born May 7, 1897 and died June 29, 1933 in an explosion at his work in Akron, OH (death certificate on file)

3) There is also a daughter Mary White born Feb 1898 listed in the household in 1900. There is no other mention of her.

There is also no information that I can find on Esther's parents.

Your Grandfather and my grandmother are the same and i remember going to 62 Hamill Street when i was younger visiting my grandfather who had a dog (Rory) at the time. Maybe we could exchange and compare information on this

Brenda

My Chambers family was originally named McCambridge (originally MacAmbrose in Kintyre and Islay). The name was changed in Antrim when they came over with the McDonnels. You are the first related person I've seen that knows when the family came over from the Argylles. There are many Chambers patrilineal lines for the surname. I took a y-DNA test to sort it out. I'm in haplogroup R1a1a which is Norse Viking. There's another marker that confirms this. Two McCambridge tests I've seen were haplogroup "I1a", also Viking stock.
I'm hoping that more McCambridges join the McCambridge DNA Project. Please encourage a male family member to do so.
Other Chambers came over to Ireland during the Plantation. They were Lowland Scots and Anglo/Norman English. They were protestant and English-speaking as required by the Crown (government). My family, like the McCambridges, were Irish-speaking and Catholic. That made a difficult life for them in Northern Ireland. Cromwell forced my family to Connaught (County Mayo) Wikipedia has good articles on the Plantation.
Regards,
Tim

My Chambers family originated with McCambridge in Kintyre according to Clan Donald. 1 in 210 Chambers are Clan Donald. I have taken the y-DNA test and found that I'm R1a1a; descended from Norse Vikings as are many of the MacDonalds including the chiefs. Other Chambers have Celtic or Western European test results, R1b.
My family emigrated to Antrim then to County Mayo in the 17th century. They left Ireland during the Famine.
I'm hoping to find a McCambridge male with Antrim roots who has taken the DNA test. I would like to confirm our McCambridge/MacAmbrose origins.
I also want to know more about our ancient family history.
Thanks,
Tim Chambers
timothychambers@yahoo.com

Wondering if Hugh might be my grandfather Hugh David McCambridge. He clerked for the Government in Belfast and the family has recollection of spending time in Straban. He had 9 children one of which emigrated to the US (California) in the 60's. Two other children emigrated to Canada, Three others to the UK. One lives in the ancestral home in Belfast, one somewhere else in Ireland and one in Australia.

I'm trying to find more recent information on ancestors. My husband's grandfather immigrated to US in 1912 - William McCambridge, born (?somewhere in Ireland?) in 1900. Settled in Fargo, North Dakota. Married Ella. Just trying to find any information on his place of birth and/or any family we may still have in Ireland.

John was my husband's 3rd gr grandfather through Vincent who came to MI about 1878. He married Letitia McGee in Glasgow 27 Jul 1868. When I had access to the UK stuff I saw something that said John was b. St. Quivox, Ayrshire, Scotland.

My Hugh McCambridge was born Co Antrim. He married a Mary O'Hagan in 1841 in Ballymena, Co Antrim. Hugh died and Mary emigrated in her old age to Stockton, NSW, AUS, where she died. I have been trying to track down my McCambridge roots in Co Antrim for years. I could be connected to you - I don't know anything more of Hugh with which to go on.
Regars

Dear Sally Ann
My name is John McCambridge. My great grandfather was Patrick(Pat) McCambridge. He had a son named Hugh who was my grandfather. He married Emma Huchel and they lived in Pittsburg. They had four children John, Ruth, Helene, and Frank? who died very young. Don't know if this helps at all. Not sure where Pat came from in Ireland or Scotland. I haven't gotten that far along yet. My father used to say that there were four brothers who came to the US with their family. Not sure of there names, but that shouldn't be too hard to find out. Have early census records. The death of Hugh is troubling because the last official word I have is that he was in Leech Farm a TB sanatarium.
Don't know if you can use any of this. I am looking for a picture of Patrick and Hugh as I don't have a picture of either of them.
Hope this helps you.
John McCambridge

I am a descendant of John McCambridge and Mary Ann White (Whyte). John's parents were William McCambridge and Catherine McNulty. John had one brother that I'm aware of - Thomas, born Abt. 1816 who married Mary Keenan. That's as far back as I've been able to get.
