CHARLTON_Shirley Grace passed quietly from this life on Friday, December 5, 2003. Named after Shirley Temple, our Shirley was everyone's sweetheart. Born to John and Grace Charlton on July 21, 1940, a serious illness in infancy is believed to have changed the course of her life. Shirley attended school at Myers and Fillmore before becoming a companion to her grandmother, Clara McBee. Shirley loved life in the community of Fillmore and enjoyed traveling with her parents to Arizona, to visit the 'American cousins' in Iowa and camping trips in Saskatchewan and Alberta. At an age when many are considering retirement, Shirley embarked on employment at the Saskatchewan Abilities Council in Saskatoon. ...The most difficult times in Shirley's life were times of change when she had to say goodbye to people (especially her mother, six months ago) ....
Shirley leaves to mourn her brother Sid (Joanne) Charlton, her sisters, Gloria (Dale) Schneider and Linda Charlton; her nieces and nephews of whom she was so proud: Erinn (Mike) Schneider; Lane (Deanna) Schneider, Meghan Charlton and Robert Buitenhuis; her dear Aunt Mabel as well as cousins. She will also be sadly missed by her dear friends, Merle, the Primeau family, her friends at the Abilities Council and at Oliver Lodge. Shirley was predeceased by her parents John and Grace Charlton and nephew Gerritt Buitenhuis.
.... A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:00p.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at the chapel of Saskatoon Funeral Home (courtesy parking south of the chapel, use 25 St. entrance). Cremation. Interment at Fillmore Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations will be gratefully accepted to the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, 2310 Louise Ave., Saskatoon SK. S7J 2C7 or Oliver Lodge, 1405 Faulkner Cres. Saskatoon SK. S7L 3R5. Arrangements entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME 244-5577
It is with a sad and heavy heart that I post this obituary for my second cousin, whom I never had the chance to meet. Her grandmother Clara KING McBEE was married to Sidney McBee, my grandfather Harvey McBee's oldest brother. The full text of the obituary can be found at
