In researching Protestant James O'Briens in Ontario in order to locate a particular James, I found your information about James and Ann McLean O'Brien, who migrated to the USA, extremely helpful in eliminating a James O'Brien who was impossible to follow in Canadian records. You may already have the following information. I found on-line the 1848 Marriage Record of your James' and Ann's marriage performed by Rev. James Skinner, Church of Scotland: Aug. 31 James OBRIEN, Adelaide [Middlesex County], to Ann MCLEAN, London. Wit: John Collie, Hector McLean.

I found the baptism records for two of their children, Elizabeth and Margaret, among the Wesleyan Methodism Baptismal Record on-line:
Area: McGillivray Township, Huron Co.
Name: Elizabeth O’Brian
Parents: James and Anne O’Brian
Residence: Biddulph Township
Birthplace: Biddulph Township
Date of Birth: 1853-12-12
Date of Baptism: 1854-05-22
Baptism Place: McGillivray Township
Minister: Webster, Rev. John
and
Area: McGillivray Twp, London District
Name: Margaret O’Brian
Parents: James and Anne O’Brian
Residence: McGillivray Twp
Birthplace: McGillivray Twp
Date of Birth: 1857-01-13
Date of Baptism: 1857-09-27
Baptism Place: McGillivray Twp
Minister: Koyle, Rev. E. S.

I also found in the 1861 Canadian Census in London Township the family of Hector and Janet McLean, including in 1861, their children, Margaret and Alexander, and granddaughter, Janet O'Brien, daughter of James and Ann McLean O'Brien. I found in the 1861 Canadian Census of Mosa Township Hector McLean whose religion was Baptist and whose wife was Flora, not Janet, and their family. These 1861 Census listings were as follows:
1861 Census, Mosa Township, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada
Hector McLean, 64, farmer, born in Scotland c. 1797, married in 1825, Baptist
Flora McLean, 67, born in Scotland c. 1794, married in 1825, FC (Free Church Presbyterian)
Lacklan McLean, 32, labourer, born in Upper Canada, FC
Roger McLean, 30, labourer, born in Upper Canada, FC
Alan McLean, 27, born in Upper Canada, FC
Don McLean, 29, born in Upper Canada, FC
(This Hector McLean is also in the 1852 and 1881 Canadian Censuses for Mosa Township. Roger's name may have been Rodrick. According to this Hector's 1886 Mosa Township death record, he was born in Argyleshire, a Disciple by religion, and lived to 90 years of age.)

1861 Census, London Township, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada
Hector McLean, 70, farmer, born in Scotland c. 1791, /c (? Presbyterian Church)
Janet McLean, 65, born in Scotland c. 1796, /c
Alexander McLean, 26, farmer, born in Upper Canada, /c
Margaret McLean, 21, born in Upper Canada, /c
Jonat Obrine, 9, born in Upper Canada c. 1852 (i.e., your Janet/Jennie, daughter of James and Ann McLean O’Brien)

Hence, the Hector McLean described in the 1871 Ontario, Canada Census Index, who was Baptist in religion, is slightly younger than your Hector McLean, and is not the correct husband of Janet McGregor McLean or the father of Ann McLean O'Brien and her siblings.

Their grandfather, William McBean/McBane, "brought them to the old Scotch settlement in Glasgow to live with relatives at the time of their parents death when Francis was a young lad." Isabella was my gggrandmother. Which William McBean/McBane was it? Who were the parents? Where did they come from? Thanks.
Hi, I saw your message from 4 years ago on CousinsConnect.com and when I answered it, the email bounced. I'm delighted to find you again!!! My great great grandfather was Elisha Drew, born in Canada and of Scottish descent. I have a photo of him. I think his father was Isaiah Drew and mother was Ruhama Bean.

My email address is: homesteader@rkymtn.net

I'd love to chat with you. Hope you respond. Sherry Phillips

Isaiah DREW and Ruhamah BEAN b. 1775

Okay, I've heard conflicting records over the years, and I'm finally feeling fed up, LOL. Is there anyone out there who is fairly certain they know if Elisha Bean is the father of Ruhamah Bean (b. 1775) who married Capt. Isaiah Drew? I am certain that my Ruhamah Bean is descended from John Bean of Exeter, but I've received conflicting information as to which line from John she is descended from. I believe it to be Elisha Bean, son of James Bean and Lydia Hoag, son of Jeremiah Bean, etc. But if anyone out there has any further information or even speculation on this, I will seriously buy you a lovely pony, because I'm literally at my wits end and am starting to have a bit of a nervous breakdown. LOL!

So, please, please, if you have any thoughts, please email me. Thank you so much for enduring my mini-rant! Many blessings to you all, and I look forward to hearing from you!

God Bless,
Sarah.

I was looking for an Alexander McBean born about 1756, problem was I was looking in Inverness, I found this one son of Forbes MacBean, and Anne Thomas? Just so happens I have a retranscribed copy of an old Family history stating that George Bain's father Alexander Bean had taken George to Woolwich when he was a boy and they had dropped the Mac while there? this would be around 1780's , This Alexander MacBean matches up for almost everything, also found a brother named William Frederick MacBean. Any help with this is greatly appreciated Thank you Name changed from Bean to Bain around 1830's in New Brunswick Canada

Bill, you emailed me with regard to the posting on the McBean Board of rootsweb. I have emailed you four or five times with respect to my MacBean family information. When I send it to etcrier.com the message comes back saying that "shaw cable is blacklisted by your provider" (?!) and when I send it to the MacBean website, it comes back first as "message delayed" and then "message timed out". I am really happy to work with you, but I don't know how, unless we do so on rootsweb? Beverley

Lucy Ann Mcgregor - daughter of Peter Mcgregor and Lavina Poole born approx 1824
married Daniel Decow (Decou) and lived in Iona, Ontario. There are numerous descendants on record. The name "Deacon" is likely a misreading of the handwritten name on a document.

They had the following children: (1) Catherine Avaline McBean b. May 19, 1849 NY, d. March 13, 1899 in Lenawee Co., MI; (2) Irving T. McBean b. 1851-1953 NY; (3) Frank A. McBean b. March 1855 NY, d. The only info I have on this family (other than Catharine Avaline McBean) is what I found on the 1870 Lenawee Co., MI census and on the death record for Frank, who was classified as an "idiot" on the 1870 census and died of epilipsy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Penny,
Gary was my father too. I have a younger brother, Gaelan, and our mother's name was Janelle. After they divorced, Gary married a very nice woman named Kathy and had a boy and girl with her (it's been so long, I can't remember their names). According to my mother, Gary may have impregnated another woman before he married her, and who knows what other siblings we may have. I just found out last year that he died in 1993 and have been trying to find out where and what the cause was. Since I was the 1st "official" child of Gary's, I do have some further info about who his parents may have been. Would love to trade more info with you. Please e-mail me.
Lena BEAN 1885-1943, b. OH, dau. of Frank & Rebecca, m. Lee MILLER 1906 Meadville PA, lived in Crawford Co. PA

My grandmother was a Lena Bean (b.1885:d.1943). Census records indicate she was born in OH (possibly around the Ashtabula County area). I believe her father’s name was Frank and her mother’s name was Rebecca (sorry, no maiden name).

She married my grandfather Lee Miller, in Meadville, PA, in 1906, and spent the remainder of her life in Crawford Co, PA.

Taking a long shot, my cardiologist is a Dr Louis Chapman Bean. When I mentioned the above facts about my grandmother and asked if he had any ties to Ohio, he indicated that his father was a doctor in that area. He also indicated that he had attended a family reunion in Michigan and that everyone was in kilts. He indicated that his ancestors migrated from Scotland and that the original name was McBean/MacBean.

So, there’s a chance here that him and I may be related. (I’d hate to figure the odds on that!)

Does anyone out there have any ties/information of the Bean/McBean/MacBean surnames in Ohio back in the late 1880’s?

Would appreciate hearing from you. My e-mail address is lmiller35@qwest.net.

Larry Miller
Phoenix, AZ

Gordon, whenever you hit a brick wall, you can do two things. You can either come back a generation, or spread out. By come back a generation, I mean research the children in much greater detail. Find every scrap of information for every one of them, and their spouses. By spread out, I mean research not just all the siblings of your brick wall couple, but also neighbors, friends, business associates, and fellow church members. Your brick wall should crumble like dried mud.

Tell us more about this family, and maybe we can help.

Valorie

I find no census records of Ludovic McBean.. But i know that Lewis McBean and wife Lula of Hope SC, had 5 children. John L, Jessie A.(Daughter), Maria Isabel, Frances Ellen, Sam R McBean. Census states Lula had 6 Children, but one died befor the census.
The charlotte County, Florida, has a news paper write up on Isabelle McBean (Belle) Quednau and spouse Fred. There is also information in this paper about Isabelles Parents, but not much. Hope this helps
