Hi Robert,
Yes, I do have alot of McBain's in my family. I am a descandant of my g-g-g-grandfather Gilbert McBain, and his wife Agnes (Nancy) H. Walters McBain. Gilbert, was born
in Scotland in 1792, and I don't have the name of his parents or where he was born, but we figure in the Iverness-shire area of Scotland. He came to this country in about
1820, and married by g-g-g-grandmtoher in 1828 in Columbiana
county, Ohio. He lived and farmed mostly in Fox township,
Carroll county, Ohio. He and his wife raised a family of
11 children in Fox township, they are Elizabeth, Sarah,
Duncan (my g-g-grandfather), Peter, David, James, John,
Hugh (killed in Battle of Vicksburgh during the Civil War),
Gilbert Jr., Catherine and William Calvin. Catherine and
William Calvin died as children in 1855. In 1854 Gilbert
traveled to Wisconsin and purchased with a land patent 450
acress of land in Richland county, Bloom township. He returned to Ohio in Oct. 1854 and died. Duncan, came to
Wisconsin in 1857, James in about 1865, David in about 1860,
and Gilbert Jr with his family in 1874. All these years later, and most of Duncan descandants stayed in WI, as did
James, and Gilbert Jr. There's alot more history, but too
much to go into right here. Gilbert came to this country,
but we don't know how he got here or where he arrived here
in the United States of America. He may have come through
Canada, or been in the War of 1812, or come by boat from
either Scotland, England or Ireland. In doing research
we figure his father may have been William McBean, but
that is not proven. Any information would be helpful
Thank You,
Carol McBain
