I think you need to contact Glee Eggers who posted the second message on this board, quite a while ago. I used to have her email address but I think she has changed it. She doesn't publish her address on here but if you click on her name there seems to be a way of sending a message to her. She is descended from the William McAuley who was the minister in Kortright and she would be able to tell you about him. This William McAuley was originally from a place called Drumgooland, which is in Co Down Northern Ireland, on the slopes of the Mourne Mountains. My wife's grandfather, who was a doctor, also came from there, and his uncle Matthew was a minister in a place called Cahans in Co Monaghan. Rev Matthew always said that he has 23 Presbyterian ministers as relatives (probably went back a long way) and I should think Rev William McAuley was related to him, though a generation before. Since the Irish records are poor (Drumgooland Presbyterian Church surviving baptisms records only start in 1860) it is impossible to prove the connection. Before emigrating to America Rev William McAuley was minister in Tullyallen in Co Armagh Ireland. There is a very short entry in the historical records of the Presbyterian Church as follows:
"TULLYALLEN's first minister, Mr. William MCAULEY, was a Drumgooland man and he was ordained in 1791. He resigned on 1 May 1794 when he emigrated to America where he was installed on 25 June 1795 at Kortright and Stamford, N.Y. He died there on 24 Mar. 1851, aged 86."
I probably have some more info on old emails from Glee. If you cannot get hold of her ask me and I will look these out. My email address in
quinn@btinternet.com. But Glee is certainly the best person to talk to.
