A lot of this was in the post I did a few years ago which is still on the board but here is a slightly potted version. My wife Patricia's (Trish) father was Billy McAuley who was born in Kircubbin Co Down (south of Newtownards). He had a brother Pat(rick) and the father was Matthew McAuley, who was the Kircubbin GP and was born in The Rock in Moneyslane. William, your g grandfather was Matthew's brother. This means your mother and my wife are second cousins and you are my wife's second cousin once removed.

The Donaghadee connection is interesting. Matthew and William's father was called James (he was the farmer at the Rock). James had six siblings (Matthew and John who were both ministers, Isabella, Nancy, Susannah and another sister I don't know the name of - I got most of this from the Rev Matthew's will). John was as far as I know a minister at Donaghadee so maybe your father is descended from him - second or third cousin? - or maybe it is just a coincidence. Also I am not entirely sure that the John McAuley who was minister at Donaghadee was the same John - there seem to have been a number of John McAuleys who were ministers.

I have spoken to Marion on the phone. We didn't know anything about the family except that they came from Moneyslane and I looked up McAuley in the phone book and found Billy McAuley at the Rock. He put me on to Marion.

Trish has sisters Barbara (lives in Belfast) and Wendy (lives in France) Pat's children are Roger, Rosemary, Donald and Peter. Unfortunately Donald and Peter are dead.

Billy and Pat had a half-brother Bobby, whose mother Mary Dodds was Matthews first wife. She and three other children died between 1905 and 1910 of TB.

I thought I could attch files to this so I could send you tree but it seems it has to be a Gedcom file which is not much use. As I say if you want me to send a tree can you let me have your email address. Probably best to send this to my email address quinn@btinternet.com
