Paul
I promised to update you on anything I found on my last visit to Norn Irn about McAuleys. I doubt if these people are closely related to you but you professed an interest in them. Just to lay it out clearly: My wife's g g grandfather was Matthew McAuley, b c1780 d? He had a farm called The Rock in Moneyslane Co Down, which is on the slopes of the Mourne Mountains. Moneyslane can also be called Clo(ugh)skelt or Drumgooland. These places are slightly different but overlap. Matthew had 7 children:
John b c1818 d 18/9/1893 - minister in Millisle Co Down
Matthew b 1809 d 19/2/1895 - minister in Cahans Co Monaghan 1829 to 1875 (not to be confused with Matthew McCauley minister McKelvey's Grove Monaghan). Retired to Newry St Rathfriland
Isabella b 1815 d 1/12/1903 Newry St Rathfriland - was Rev Matthew's housekeeper in Cahans and then Rathfriland. Not marr
Susannah b ? d ? m ? McNeilly - grocer Percy St Belfast
Nancy b 1827/8 d 17/3/1907 Newry St Rathfriland (shared with Isabella). Not marr
James b? d ? but before 1895. marr ? Dr Matthew's father
One other daughter name unknown but married name Parkinson.
I have synopses of the wills of Matthew, Nancy and Isabella and of course substantial trees below these popel if you are interested but I would need an email address so that could send attachments, which I can't seem to do here.
The Nat Archive now seems to be promising the Antrim and Down 1911 censuses in October!! Fingers crossed.
